Addressing cancer inequalities in black and minority ethnic (BME) and low-income communities. Put Yourself In My Place!

About us

B’Me (the new operational name of BME Cancer Communities, registered CIO No 1182806.) is a vibrant charitable organisation that provides information, advocacy and support to black and minority ethnic (BME) and low-income household communities affected by cancer and other long term conditions. The object of B'Me is: To preserve and protect the health of people in particular but not exclusively from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) and low-income communities living with or affected by cancer by providing and assisting in the provision of: - culturally sensitive and appropriate practical advice, information, advocacy and support services; - services directed to improving participation in BME cancer research and detection initiatives, and - diversity training to improve the cultural sensitivity and service delivery of statutory bodies. Our principal founders include a BME Cancer Information Specialist/Consultant who is a qualified radiotherapy radiographer with over 30 years experience of working in the NHS and the voluntary sector. She has worked with diverse ethnic groups affected by cancer and advises leading public bodies including major cancer charities, and the Department of Health. Our advisors are professionals with expertise across a wide range of public and voluntary sector service; community and professional volunteers are valued and involved in the delivery of our services

  • Are you a caregiver, husband, wife or partner of someone affected by cancer and other chronic conditions? If so, The Rose Thompson Foundation would love to hear from you. To maintain the vision of our late founder, Dr Rose Thompson, we are setting up a Carers Support Group to provide culturally appropriate resources and a supportive community for Black Caribbean and Black African caregivers. Join us this Wednesday the 14th of August for our first drop-in session, between 3-8pm. We will provide refreshments and a comfortable space for you to tell us how we can help you as a caregiver. Providing adequate support for caregivers in our community is a priority! Come and help us shape this initiative with your input. Join us at The Rose Thompson Foundation, Christopher Cargill House, 21-23 Pelham Road, Nottingham NG5 1AP. For more information, call us on 07492830786, or visit: rosetf.org.uk
