Imitation isn’t just the sincerest form of flattery. It also plays a key role in early brain development. You probably know that your baby is an expert observer. But did you know that as they watch, their brains activate in ways that correspond with the actions they see, even before they act them out? According to research from the University of Washington’s Institute for Learning and Brain, when your baby watches you manipulate a toy or other object with your hands (for example), their brains activate in the regions that control the movement of their own hands? And as they watch your feet… you guessed it. It’s pretty amazing, really. I just love how this little apprentice mirrors mom’s actions. It’s another reminder of how babies closely follow our lead. There’s nothing your baby wants more than to be just like YOU. This video was shared to IG by cute(dot)babiesHD. #earlychildhood #earlyyears #eyfs #parenting

We recently partnered with the University of Cambridge and Wellcome Leap to carry out an online survey with parents/primary carers raising children between the ages of 0-5 years old. This forms part of The First 1000 Days (1kD) program which is a $45 million program that brings together experts in the life sciences, engineering, and computer science from across universities, non-profits, and the private sector to develop scalable measurement methods and models to predict and promote healthy brain development in infants. This research revealed that over 50% of UK parents feel that they don't have enough time to play with their child. At Babyzone, we exist to be a safe space where parents and children can connect, play and learn together - away from worry and stress. We have 5 centres open and are growing fast! We are inviting early years charities and organisations in the UK to partner with us. Get in touch on hello@babyzone.org.uk #Parentchildbond #Babyzonegrowth #earlyyearsresearch

It’s back to school time! 📚 Did you know health and learning are deeply interconnected? A child’s earliest experiences are critical for both brain development and the healthy development of their biological systems, including the immune and cardiovascular systems. 📽️ To learn more about the connection between health and learning, watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/ew-cyn_H

This week the government’s new Child Poverty Taskforce met for the first time and with 4 million children and young people living in poverty they’ve got a huge job on their hands. The impact of living in poverty is devastating for children and young people and directly harms their future life chances. I hope that the Taskforce take time to listen to the voices of children and young people when undertaking their work to truly understand the daily challenges that families need to overcome to ensure their basic needs are met. This is an issue we all have to address together and there are many great people and organisations already working hard on supporting communities and families impacted by living in poverty. Here’s a shoutout to a few amazing partners that we work with at Future, Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone and Legacy Youth Zone, Croydon to support young people living in challenging circumstances… Babyzone is doing amazing things to remove all barriers a family will face when raising babies and toddlers. Place2Be provide mental health support for children and young people. City Harvest London redistribute food to people, organisations and communities where it is most needed. MyBnk deliver really engaging financial education programmes for young people. The Childhood Trust bring businesses, philanthropists and other donors together to fund organisations that help to alleviate the impact of poverty on children and young people. OnSide (who I know very well) provide safe, affordable and aspirational places for young people to go in their leisure time. Along with ensuring the voices of children and young people are front and centre to finding positive solutions to reducing child poverty, collaboration is the key to making true change and levelling the playing field for everyone.
