In the daytime that is consulting on battery design. In spare time that is building batterydesign.net to be a place to share information, knowledge and ideas. However, it’s not all about me. The site now has lots of people who contribute articles, posters and information. Battery Pack Sealing https://lnkd.in/eQFKzepd There are some good and bad fundamental designs. The Volvo XC40 is an example where the design of the mating surfaces between the base and the lid makes it difficult for any seal to work properly. #batterypack #mechanical #sealing #design

Found a brochure for the Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company EMD Joule #battery #locomotives. The extracted specs below indicate a battery size from 4 to 14.5 MW.h and an overall vehicle mass from 107 to a whopping 245 tonnes. So how much do just the batteries weigh? Well, looking at the graph below from BatteryDesign.net, larger battery packs come in at around 10 tonnes per MW.h. So the Joule’s batteries are likely to weigh from 40 to 145 tonnes.
