Last month, our London team stepped away from the Studio for a well-deserved day in Brighton. Taking in breathtaking views from the i360, walking along the coast on a beautiful day, and even braving the sea for a quick swim. We had a chance to reflect, recharge, and celebrate the successes of the year. Proud of all we’ve accomplished together this year, and looking forward to seeing what 2025 has in store for us! #wearebdg

As we get close to completing our full refurb and repositioning of the former FT building at Southwark Bridge, it's worth reflecting on the dramatic transformation and civic improvements being brought to this part of The Bankside Path as a result. This part of the Thames path has always felt like a thoroughfare - a bit of an anti-climax after the generous space in front of the Tate Modern and Globe or the spooky meandering alleyways around the Clink Museum and Southwark Cathedral. In response; the Thames Path is widened and a new public cafe, raised up from the path, overlooks the river-wall towards the City. The previously opaque building is made transparent and the gated site is opened up and activated with show-case spaces, new entrances and planting at street level making for a more attractive and permeable public realm, bringing people far closer to the building than was ever possible before. We hope to encourage some of the 1000s of pedestrians who make their way along this path, to venture away from the river and explore some of Southwark's rich history. A new public route along the the side of Southwark Bridge's brick arches leads towards the site of the Original Globe Theatre and it's precursor The Rose Play House both on Park Street, lovingly preserved in the lower levels of the Rose Court building; also refurbished by BDG architecture + design. A new planted courtyard will provide some shade and calm from the usual hustle and bustle along the river and provides a place for visitors and locals to sit...and take a breath. Well done to all involved - it's been a long time coming and the results are truly transformational! #wearebdg Photo Credits Phil Hutchinson

Is how design comes apart as important as how it’s put together? In partnership with Specialist Group explore how creating for disassembly could be key to a more sustainable design future, offering the opportunity to reimagine, reconfigure and breathe new life into commercial spaces. But as with most utopian ideas, reality can get in the way… Read (and watch) the highlights from the discussion: https://lnkd.in/e8wnqArR Thanks to our guests: Jonny Wong, dMFK Mitch James, BDG architecture + design Nathalie Bergvall, John Robertson Architects Enrique Soler, Willmott Dixon Ciaron Mullarkey, tp bennett Jack Lewis, exigere Ciaran O'Hagan, Specialist Group - Joinery | Glass | Metal #MixRoundtable #commercialinteriors #designingfordisassembly

BDG is super excited to be published in US Interior Design Magazine in an article about new and innovative spaces in North America. This new 39,300-square-foot office suite is located on the Beltline in Atlanta. It houses twelve agencies, including GroupM, a media investment group; VML, brand and customer experience strategists; and AKQA, digital experience designers, who will collaborate with The Coca-Cola Company and other brands in the local market. The design concept draws inspiration from Atlanta's traditional hospitality, featuring a soft palette of warm peach and earth tones, vibrant red accents, and natural wood. The interiors are inviting, with minimal right angles, comfortable furniture, and curved lines in the layout. Toby Neilson, Director of Architecture at BDG architecture + design, attended the UK REiiF at the end of May. Here are a few of his key takeaways: “What a whirlwind week it was at UKREiiF! Its taken a while to consolidate all that went on….and what a lot there was! Below are my highlights: I loved hearing about how Science and Innovation projects are adding social value from Caroline McDade (BNP Paribas) Gareth Roberts (British Land) and Emma Goodford (Knight Frank). With inspiring and charismatic requests for ‘all of that!’ from Bayo Dosunmu – Chief Exec London Borough of Lambeth. Did you know at any one time there are over 600 clinical trials running in Lambeth? Making it simultaneously one of the most scientifically advanced and economically deprived boroughs in London – not to mention one of the most diverse. It was great learning more about Mission Street and their pioneering design and development of research and science buildings throughout the UK. Great to meet Robert Burke at Constructive despite the rain! Catching up with Helen Nichol Noesis Consulting Limited was also a real joy – thank you for trekking across Leeds in the deluge and giving up a good chunk of your time for me. I owe you one! And a new one or me – joining the 7am running group with Property Sports Network. Definitely worth it – Thank you Andrew Link! As always good time spent with past and current partners and collaborators – John Lenehan and marnie brinkworth at Acrylicize (thank you for the introduction to Bundobust). Alex Lynes at Webb Yates Engineers and Andy Stanton and Richard Hansen at Introba and Rebecca Cove at Jason Bruges Studio. UKREiiF is a breath of fresh air amongst a number of conferences in the Built Environment sector, it was great to be talking optimistically about the UK. Hearing from proper influencers and decision makers about the huge amount of intellectual capital we have and the drive for sustainable and considered added social value. Looking forward to next year already!"
