✒️In response to an open letter signed by 170 businesses requesting a lower, permanent business rate for hospitality businesses, beam urges Rt Hon Rachel Reeves to introduce such a measure in the upcoming Autumn budget. This will enable our members to invest in their future and support employment growth.   Julie Shorrock, beam's Chair, comments: "Any drop in business rate relief will hit our members' businesses hard. Without this support, their costs will rise, and many will struggle to keep up. This could lead to higher prices, reduced staffing, or cuts to services as they try to manage the increased expenses. For some businesses, it may even be a battle to remain open, especially given the other economic challenges they currently face."   Read more here, including the open letter backed by UKHospitality: https://bit.ly/3YBhCXK   #WeArebeamUK #HospitalityIndustry #UKHospitality #MeetingsAndEvents

𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲-𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆? This World Menopause Awareness Day (October 18), we're highlighting key insights from Jo Fuller, founder of The Merry Menopause, on how to create a more supportive environment for those experiencing Menopause and Perimenopause⬇️ Jo's session at our 2024 Summer Forum explored how open conversations and workplace policies can significantly impact employees, boosting wellbeing and productivity. ....................................................................... How Can We Create Menopause-Friendly Workplaces? Jo explored the crucial intersection of Menopause, Perimenopause, Menstruation and workplace wellbeing, highlighting why these conversations are vital for fostering supportive and inclusive work environments. According to the NHS, there are around 13 million Perimenopausal and Menopausal women in the UK. That's one-third of the female population. These women are often at the peak of their careers, yet two-thirds report that Menopausal symptoms negatively impact their work lives. 💡 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 🎓 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - Menopause and Menstruation shouldn't be taboo subjects. Open conversations and educational initiatives are essential for creating supportive work environments. 📜 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 - Flexible working hours, Menopause and Menstruation-specific policies, and an inclusive culture can make a world of difference. 💪 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 - Simple adjustments and understanding can help retain experienced, talented employees who might otherwise leave due to unmanaged symptoms. One statistic that stood out to many is from the Fawcett Society's Menopause in the Workplace Report: 1 𝙞𝙣 10 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙙𝙪𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙨. This loss of talent is something we can no longer afford to overlook. Menopause is not just a personal issue; it's a workplace issue that affects productivity, morale, and the overall wellbeing of an organisation. ....................................................................... Last month we held our inaugural State of the Nation event at Cliveden House and Spa. "The beam State of the Nation Working Lunch at Cliveden House was an incredibly valuable experience. The insights shared by Martin Fullard and John Rowland were not only thought-provoking but also highly relevant to the current political and economic landscape. John Rowland’s analysis of the general election and his projections for the upcoming budget - especially around potential changes to Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax - provided real clarity on what businesses might expect in the near future. "Coupled with the excellent networking opportunities, this event was a fantastic platform for fostering meaningful discussions and future collaborations. If you didn’t attend, you really missed a great event."
