We’re helping Belfast’s music scene hit the high notes this autumn with a £400,000 investment to support this key sector. Through a series of initiatives, grant schemes, events and opportunities, the funding – alongside our #Belfast2024 celebration of creativity - will help promote local artists, develop our live music scene, nurture new talent and showcase just why we’re considered a UNESCO City of Music! Key highlights include: * UNESCO City of Music Day on Saturday 9 November, featuring artists from fellow music city Kansas, USA, as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival. * Output Belfast on Tuesday 12 November - Ireland’s biggest one-day music conference is anyone working in, or keen to break into, the music industry and will include a huge live music showcase in the Cathedral Quarter. * 10th Sound of Belfast Festival (7-17 November) – ten days of gigs and events celebrating the best of established and emerging NI music and including the NI Music Prize. * A partnership with Pathways into Music, with support from the Education Authority, to help music tutors and teachers advise and support young people who want to pursue a career in music * Internship programme with WorkPlus for seven paid work placements, pairing music organisations with aspiring creators. * A grant programme as part of Ulster Orchestra’s Crescendo project to support children to purchase musical instruments Read more about what we’ve got planned at https://ow.ly/nBUP50TIB9W #BelfastMusic #Belfast2024 #Culture #Arts #Music

We're thrilled to see the incredible work at St Comgall's, West Belfast awarded at the RICS Awards 2024, winning best Refurbishment/Revitilisation Project. Working with The Executive Office the project was delivered for the Falls Community Council. A once derelict former school, St Comgall’s has been transformed into a stunning community hub. The Neo-Georgian brickwork, restored roofs, and added spaces like offices, a café, and event areas have brought this local treasure back to life. It's a shining example of urban regeneration, right here in Belfast! Lord Mayor Councillor Micky Murray was delighted to host the Aflac US Executive Team yesterday, Thursday October 3, to celebrate the happy occasion of Aflac Northern Ireland's fifth birthday in Belfast. It was great to take a little time to mark this important investment anniversary, discuss the company's growth plans, and give the team a flavour of Belfast's city ambitions, challenges and priorities. We wish Aflac every continued success and look forward to working with them in the coming months and years. #Investment #Partnership #Collaboration

Lots happening in #BelfastCityCentre this autumn to increase vibrancy and develop our visitor offering. At the start of the week, we unveiled a new mural in Winetavern Street, created by arts collective Peaball to celebrate the Oscar-winning short movie An Irish Goodbye. Supported by our #Belfast2024 programme, it's also directly across the road from what will be Belfast Stories - the new home for storytelling and screen in our city when it opens in 2030. Then, on Tuesday, the new Augmented Reality experience at City Hall opened to the public, inside our visitor exhibition, thanks to a collaboration with BT Business. It uses the latest digital technology, including projection technologies and gesture-controlled interactive gaming, to bring the city to life and allow visitors to explore our past, present and future. Also this week, we launched the new Belfast Art Map - a pocket-sized guide highlighting over 40 art galleries, exhibitions, artist studios and public art pieces across the city centre and beyond. It also includes those venues taking part in our Late Night Art initiative which takes place on the first Thursday of every month. Pick up a copy at cafés, bars, restaurants, libraries and cultural and tourism venues across the city, including 2 Royal Avenue and the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre, or online at belfastartmap.com Next up - we're looking forward to #BelfastRestaurantWeek next week, celebrating our city's amazing food scene, with offers and menus at 50+ restaurants from 7-13 October! #StreetArt #Belfast #Belfast2024 #StreetArtBelfast #BelfastCreative #BelfastMurals #InnovationBelfast #LateNightArt #LNA #BRW24

It was a pleasure to host colleagues from our Sister City Nashville this week. Lord Mayor Councillor Micky Murray, our Chief Executive John Walsh and our international team provided an overview of Belfast’s potential for greater partnership with Nashville, considering inward and outward trade & investment opportunities and potential for collaboration in: - Cyber - Healthcare - US/NI/EU trade - Creative industries During their stay, the delegation visited the Titanic Distillery at The Pumphouse on the Maritime Mile, Titanic Belfast and the SSE Arena (which will host the Friendship Four ice hockey tournament on 29 & 30 November 2024). The group particularly enjoyed learning about the heritage driven approach being taken to the Titanic Quarter’s development, combining city living, hotels, office, innovation, academic and leisure provision. They also took in a tour of Parliament Buildings, hosted by the Speaker of the NI Assembly and a visit to Queen’s University Belfast to discuss the university’s estate development and regeneration plan. US Consul General James Applegate hosted a networking reception and the Lord Mayor hosted a civic reception at Belfast City Hall. Thank you to all our partners for extending such a warm Belfast welcome. There’s so much potential benefit for both Nashville and Belfast in further developing our Sister City Relationship – and we’re looking forward to progressing our ideas further during a Belfast delegation to Nashville in February 2025, led by the Lord Mayor, marking 30 years of Belfast-Nashville Sister City relations.
