We’re thrilled to announce that one of our North America projects, The District Gourmand at CF Pointe Claire, has been shortlisted for the ICSC Global Design & Development Awards! This project transformed a vacant Sears space into a vibrant and sophisticated food destination at the heart of a future major mixed-use development in Greater Montreal. Inspired by the building’s original 1960s architecture, our team blended mid-century retro elements—like felt-wrapped, multi-leveled ceiling panels and exposed concrete columns—with refined materials such as polished brass, terrazzo-style tiles, and black walnut. The result? A stunning fusion of retro charm and modern loft elegance. The ICSC Global Design & Development Awards celebrate excellence in the design and development of marketplaces and tenant experiences. We are honored to be recognized among such innovative projects. Winners will be announced at ICSC+CENTERBUILD in December. Congratulations to our North America team! We’re proud to announce that our wayfinding project for London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence at the ISTD awards. Graeme Crow, Emily Whiteside and Emily Bagnall were excited to pick up the award at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion on Friday night. Using the building as a canvas, we designed a light of touch wayfinding system that seamlessly supports navigation around the University. To complement the scheme, set in Helvetica Neue, we designed a bespoke set of pictograms that work as an extension of the typeface and speak to LCF’s fashion origins. Thank you to everyone involved in the project – your hard work and creativity made this recognition possible! 🔗 Read more about our project here: https://lnkd.in/eNxT8Nf9 #ISTDawards2024 #typography #designawards #typographydesign

In our latest Pulse survey we asked consumers across the world about their shopping preferences and expectations of mixed use destinations. While consumers generally seek a variety of F&B, retail and leisure options, varied F&B is most popular among UK and US consumers (both at 20% versus global average of 16%). Consumers in China are more likely to seek a broad range of retail, F&B and leisure (18% versus 14% globally), while US consumers value outdoor space more than others (16% versus 13% globally); consumers in United Arab Emirates appear to value cultural and education spaces more than other countries (11% versus 8% globally). Our insights suggest people expect a high level of functionality in respect to shopping, but this should not be to detriment of authentic, varied, and life affirming everyday experiences. Mixed-use developments should strike a balance between practicality and experiential richness. We will be publishing the full results shortly.

Our North America team was pleased to participate in ICSC Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre last week. This year, we hosted a branded booth showcasing our latest retail projects and thinking. Over the course of the event, we were able to exchange ideas with industry leaders, Canadian landlords, brokers, developers, and retailers while also exploring the latest trends shaping the industry. ICSC Canada provided an amazing opportunity to lay the groundwork for what’s next in the commercial real estate sector, fostering conversations that will drive innovation across the industry. A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth! We're excited about the connections made and the future partnerships ahead. Our latest wave of Pulse research reveals that the importance of social media’s influence on shopping decision making is growing and that 20% of global consumers claim they frequently use social media and often make purchases directly through social media sites. However, there are significant differences across countries and age groups. The impact of social media on shopping is less apparent in the US, where just 13% of consumers claim they frequently use social media and it greatly influences online and offline purchases (this is compared to 35% in India, 30% in Saudi Arabia, and 29% in China). However, these national figures mask key differences across the generations. In the US, people aged 18-34 are 38% more likely to say social media has a major impact on their shopping decisions than the US average. While in China, People aged 18-34 are 41% more likely to say social media has a major impact on their shopping decisions. As the influence of social media on shopping decisions grows, it is imperative that retailers and brands in general understand and harness this to optimise their experiences. We will publish the full Pulse research results shortly.
