Earlier this month, Pivotl partnered with Alan Brown and the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT to explore and share experiences with a packed room of delegates. Lesson: Even if investment dips, the skills and infrastructure built will have long-lasting value. 💸 Cost Barriers Maintaining large-scale AI models can be prohibitively expensive, even for government agencies. Lesson: High costs are slowing down AI adoption at scale. 🎓 Leadership Gaps in Digital There’s a major digital knowledge gap in leadership. Lesson: Leaders need better digital literacy to navigate AI and tech integration effectively. 🛠️ Technological Disconnect A gap often exists between technical teams and decision-makers, impacting collaboration. Lesson: Modern governance and decision structures are vital for successful digital transformation. 📊 Scale & Innovation Operating at the right scale is key to innovation. Lesson: Organisations need flexible processes to adapt and scale efficiently. 📚 Learning from the Past Even if AI investments falter, like the dot-com era, lasting advances in infrastructure will remain. Lesson: History shows that technological bubbles often leave behind valuable assets for future growth. 🧠 Contextual Decision-Making AI adoption must be aligned with organisational context and risk profile. Lesson: Informed decisions early on, especially around leadership and procurement, determine long-term success. The event highlighted the importance of bridging the digital leadership gap and managing AI's complexities to ensure scalable, context-appropriate transformation. Dark data is stored indefinitely and often needlessly, reducing business efficiency, increasing the chances and seriousness of security issues, detracting from the true value of data, and contributing negatively to environmental issues in ways that might surprise you.
