Happy birthday to our Borehamwood bike and e-bike share scheme 🥂 Since we launched it two years ago, in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council, the scheme has given thousands of people greater access to active travel. The bikes have generated more than 25,000 sustainable journeys across nearly 50,000km - more than the distance around the Earth. We know, from direct rider feedback, that our Hertsmere service is often used for commuting and part-commuting, connecting with other modes of transport. This is a real positive for us, as our schemes are designed to form part of local integrated transport networks. For more info, click here: https://bit.ly/4dSUjwE

Question - Which distance is greater, from the Earth to the Moon or ten times around the Earth? 🌍 🌕 It's ten times around the Earth which, at 400,750 kilometres, is the greater distance by 16,350. In its first eighteen months, our Plymouth e-bike share scheme has surpassed both of these milestones, clocking up more than 429,000 kilometres from over 175,000 sustainable journeys. According to industry calculations, it has also saved more than 12 tonnes of carbon emissions , which is a positive impact on regional air quality. These milestones are a bit of fun, but they're also a good way to showcase the demand for shared sustainable transport. We'll continue to work alongside our scheme partners Plymouth City Council to encourage even more people to swap four wheels for two across the city. Our brand new bays are now ready to use at the University of Worcester. The eight bays will allow staff and students to access the bikes from City Campus, Severn Campus, and at several locations on St John’s Campus. We know, from working with other universities across the UK, just how well the advantages of bikeshare can dovetail with the typical student lifestyle. Shared transport is much cheaper than private car ownership, removing expenses such as fuel, insurance, maintenance and MOT. Similarly, the flexibility of the bikes, especially in comparison to the set times and routes of public transport, can easily fit in around almost any student or staff timetable of classes and lectures. It's another feather in the cap of our Worcester bike and e-bike share scheme, run in partnership with Worcester City Council, which has been a big success since launching this summer. Our Watford scheme has expanded to Croxley Green, making bike share services even more accessible to thousands more people. Run in partnership with Watford Borough Council, the scheme has extended its boundary to the west and added 15 e-bikes and five new bays for riders to use. The expansion is part of a two year e-bike pilot funded by Three Rivers District Council via their capital budget. It follows the expansion to Bushey earlier this year and will enable riders to enjoy greater flexibility and make hassle-free rides between Croxley, Bushey, and Watford. By making the service even more accessible to more people, we can hopefully contribute even more towards reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and getting people active. There hasn’t been a new e-bike for docked or hybrid systems launched in a long time. We’ve been operating and making bikes for years and this bike takes all the best features and technologies that the dockless boom has given the industry and applies it to make the best E-bike to ride and operate in sharing systems all over the world. I’m not prone to hyperbole but I really think this is the greatest shared e-bike ever. Congrats to all in involved - there are lots of you.

Our new e-bikes have hit the streets of Stevenage today. We're delighted to be launching in a borough that not only boasts excellent infrastructure to help get the most out of the e-bikes, but also a long-term vision for encouraging residents and visitors to adopt more sustainable transport habits. Operated in partnership with Stevenage Borough Council, the scheme comprises 150 e-bikes, which are available to hire from a network of 45 Beryl Bays located in key areas. A special launch event is being held today at Event Island, with Beryl staff on hand to answer questions, offer help and advice and provide test rides, giveaways and discount codes to people. The scheme has been funded in part by funding awarded to Stevenage in 2021 as part of UK government’s Towns Fund, through the Stevenage Development Board, as well as contributions from developers as part of Section 106 agreements. Our new BBE2 bikes have hit the streets of Guildford today. The initial pilot phase links the University of Surrey’s Stag Hill and Manor Park campuses with Guildford town centre – encouraging sustainable travel behaviours among new and returning students as the new academic year begins. This pilot phase will accelerate over the coming weeks, with 200 bikes with 46 bays available across a wider part of the town by the end of October as we enter the winter months. A full complement of 300 bikes will then be available across 56 bays in spring 2025 – those final bays will be in the outer areas of the town completing a comprehensive network. We were appointed as the scheme operator by a project partnership made up of Surrey County Council, which is contributing £1.05million to help the start-up of the scheme, Guildford Borough Council, which is contributing £250,000, and the University of Surrey. We've hit half a million sustainable journeys in Watford! Since we launched the scheme alongside Watford Borough Council in March 2020, it has had a significant impact. Those 500,000 journeys have saved 51 tonnes of carbon emissions and generated over 190,000 hours of physical activity. That's a positive contribution towards reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and getting people more active across the borough. Direct feedback from our Watford riders also tells us that nearly half of them have used our bikes and e-bikes to replace a car, van, taxi or motorbike journey. We'll continue to work with our council partners and take on board feedback from riders and key stakeholders to ensure our scheme remains as user friendly and convenient as possible. By doing that, we can continue to encourage even more people to adopt sustainable transport habits. We're delighted to have launched 35 new e-bikes on the streets of Eastleigh this week alongside our partners Hampshire County Council. Further bikes will be added to the scheme in the autumn, as we look to help reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions while improving public health. Our latest annual Rider Report showed that our e-bikes have had a positive impact on riders' transport habits. Of those asked, 56% of Beryl e-bike users said they had either cycled more often or much more often, while 36% said they had either used private cars less often or stopped completely since using them. E-bikes are a really fun and versatile way to travel and their extra power can really open up areas, enabling riders to tackle hills and undertake longer journeys. Of all the riders we asked, 90% said this was important to them when choosing to use an e-bike. They’re also great for commuting, allowing people to arrive at work clean and ready to go, and for carrying heavier loads such as shopping. With almost two million e-bike journeys to our name, we're delighted to be bringing all of their benefits to another area of the country.
