It was an absolute pleasure today to speak at BESA Group Eastern Counties meeting. It was great to have the opportunity to meet members in the region and talk about skills and training and introduce some of the projects the BESA Skills Policy Team are working on to to address the skills shortage in our sector. Already a busy few months for our BESA NextGen Network! We’ve welcomed Ibrahim Q. at Vital Energi Utilities Limited as our new Chair and Stephen H. at HE Simm as our Vice Chair who are already building the momentum for the rest of the year.   Highlights So Far: ⭐ Meeting & Industry Insights - We got together to discuss our key focuses for the year, reflect on 2024, and welcome new members. Investing in Training, Inspiring the Next Generation this #NationalCareersWeek Following a detailed study of the sector’s skills requirements, we believe the “critically low” number of trainers and assessors is undermining the industry’s whole further education (FE) process. Failing to address this issue would leave the industry unable to plug skills gaps and meet demand for its services by the end of this decade. We are proud to introduce the BESA Skills Legacy — a bold initiative designed to address the growing skills gap in the Building Services Engineering sector. Our mission is clear: to 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 across all four nations, ensuring we have the expertise to develop the next generation of engineers. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐀 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲? The demand for skilled professionals in Building Services Engineering is at an all-time high. However, without enough trainers and assessors, we risk falling short of equipping new talent with the skills they need.
