About us

At Besmoke, we manufacture natural smoke, grill and flavour enhancement products for some of the world’s leading food brands and flavour manufacturers, helping them to produce sophisticated tastes and flavours - all of which consistently adhere to food certification and assurance schemes. We are able to harness both the Art and the Science of smoke. The Art - SmokeCreate SmokeCreate is Bemoke’s unique natural draft smoking process. We use traditional draft smoking techniques, in state of the art facilities, to produce the very finest bespoke smoked products and ingredients at scale. The Science - PureTech PureTech is our revolutionary patented smoke filtration technology. It allows us to create the safest, cleanest pure flavour products for some of the world’s leading food brands and flavour manufacturers. PureTech Flavours Our Pure range of flavours lead the market in smoke, grill and flavour enhancement technology. Developed using our PureTech technology, our PureSmoke, PureGrill and PureMami offer safe, natural flavour and taste enhancement – allowing manufacturers to extend flavour profiles, reduce salt and sugar levels and much more. Who we are Huw Griffiths is the founder of Besmoke. He started his career as an Environmental Scientist but dreamt of working in the food industry. The business was born of that passion. Today Huw is CEO, and based at Besmoke’s modern factory in Arundel, West Sussex. Dr David Baines is a world-renowned food scientist, who advises food and flavour companies worldwide thanks to his specialist expertise on heat reaction flavours. Ex-President of the UK Flavour Association and founder of Flavour Horizons Dr Jane K Parker is an academic, lecturer and head of the Flavour Centre at Reading University. Jane conducts research and lab development work for a wide range of large commercial clients within the food industry.

    What a fantastic day with McCormick & Company at their Hunt Valley Technical Innovation Centre USA Last week, our CEO & Founder, Huw Griffiths, had the pleasure of presenting the latest in smoke, grill, sodium reduction, and taste enhancement technologies at an exclusive lunch meeting with the team at McCormick. During the session, Huw showcased how Besmoke is setting new benchmarks for cleaner, safer, and tastier smoke and grill solutions—all fully compliant with the latest European regulations. We dove into: ✅ Innovations in natural smoke flavours for seasonings, coatings, and condiments ✅ The versatility of our grill technologies in poultry and plant-based applications ✅ Sodium reduction strategies for bakery and condiments ✅ Enhanced taste and mouthfeel solutions for a range of food categories ✅ And even smoke applications for beverages! It was a great opportunity to share practical insights and see firsthand how our cutting-edge ingredients can transform product lines.     Meet Neil Halls, a Besmoke Production Super Hero! Our longest serving production employee, Neil joined the team some 10 years ago and has since been our most devoted, consistant and hard working Team member. Neil sets a fantastic example to every member of Team Besmoke; he brings a great work ethic, great humour, and the 'can do' attitude that Besmoke is famous for. With the growth that Besmoke has experienced since Neil joined the team, it's testament to his energy and resiliance that he remains such a solid foundation within the production team.     McCormick & Company & BESMOKE: A Partnership Built on Flavour and Innovation Our collaboration with McCormick began almost 20 years ago from a chance encounter... Back when Besmoke was just a small farmer’s market stall in Brighton, UK, Huw Griffiths decided to attend the Fine Food Fair in London. He had just developed one of his very first smoked ingredients—smoked black peppercorns. With only a few hand-filled sachets and handwritten labels, Huw nervously slipped samples into the bags of a few delegates passing by. Little did he know, one of those bags belonged to Carl Olsen, then Director of Innovation at McCormick. Just days later, Huw found himself in Haddenham meeting with Carl, who committed to launching Besmoke’s smoked pepper into the McCormick Gourmet Global Select Range—and the rest is history! Today, we’re proud to still be supplying smoked pepper to McCormick in the US and continuing to grow this amazing partnership.
