Getting pregnant isn’t an employee's only story… Having recently been referred to an employee to provide them with Parental coaching, during the initial first session we discovered that the employee had also just experienced a parent’s death. Due to our training, knowledge and experience we can immediately navigate and support an employee in this area too. We can support them through the pregnancy and baby’s arrival which is the most sensitive time when grieving a parent. Does your Parental Returner Coaching provide a range of support at exactly the right time? 🤔

About us
At Beyond EAP, we work alongside enlightened, forward-thinking HR leaders to support, manage, and retain talented employees. We go beyond the services provided by traditional EAP services, because the scenarios we work with are often intense and complex, requiring bespoke personal support. They include diagnosis of a terminal illness, traumatic life events, anxiety and depression, and bereavement, as well as supporting employees returning to work following a long period of absence, such as returning after having a family. By their very nature, these scenarios can be very difficult to manage in a traditional workplace setting, with its fast pace and contrasting expectations. As an employer, finding the right support can have a huge impact on both your retention rate, and your reputation. Here is a non-exhaustive list of issues we are trained to work with: Becoming a new parent Maternity leave coaching Paternity leave coaching Conception coaching support Adoption coaching support Burnout prevention A traumatic birthing delivery, affecting both the mother and father Post-natal trauma Miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death Therapeutic or elective abortion Fertility and conception issues Assault, abuse, coercive control, sexual harassment, and rape Divorce, or a traumatic relationship break-up Debt issues Substance misuse issues Caring responsibilities, including supporting a loved one's long-term illness The aftermath of suicide Stress, anxiety, and depression Loss, grief, and bereavement Long Covid, and returning to work post-Covid Diagnosis of a disease, Take a look at our series of free employee resources which provide support and guidance on a range of related subjects. Employer of the month 👏🏼 During a session this week with a Parental returner employee where we’d considered and planned for contingencies (especially in those first crucial weeks returning to work), I was so proud of the employee and their insightful employee who let the employee extend their return date by a week by using annual leave after the employee notified them that the nursery their child was about to attend had a bad outbreak of hand, foot and mouth. Parents will know that the unexpected can always happen, especially when the timing isn’t quite right… This was music to my ears when she said, ‘Work was very accommodating and agreed to the extra week very quickly so that was good!’ Now this employee will be returning to work knowing that her firm has her back! Would you do the same for your employees?

Take a look at the feedback we’ve recently received from an employee referred to us after her second pregnancy, here’s her experience going through our Parental returner coaching programme, twice! “Sandie provided excellent support after I had both my babies. She was always so cool, calm and collected- exactly the type of person to speak to when dealing with a hectic maternity leave! Sandie provided support and reassurance through all stages of new motherhood and returning to work. She made me feel much more at ease about returning and was knowledgeable, impartial and reassuring. Sandie remembered small details from previous discussions and was always very easy to talk to, not just about work and motherhood! She was very helpful from a practical perspective too, providing me with invaluable help in submitting my flexible working application (which was accepted). I am so grateful I got to speak to Sandie through both my pregnancies and maternity leaves. She made a huge difference to my wellbeing, especially leading up to my return to work.” Please drop us a message if you would like to chat to our team 💬

Do you give your employees the right amount of time after the death of a loved one? Continuing on our theme of grief this month I want to cover some of the enormous areas associated with how grief affects us. I talked about the emotional areas of grief in our earlier post this month... The physical reactions differ from person to person and are very real, from feeling totally drained, with aches and pains and tightness in the body, to sleep issues, appetite changes, AND the immune system possibly being low and picking up every bug. From being foggy-headed, having negative repetitive thoughts, difficulty making decisions, and the speed of time being distorted to perhaps wanting to be isolated, and feeling restless or misunderstood. Giving your employees the right amount of time to start to process all of the above is key! We have guided many HR professionals over the last 10 years by facilitating and working alongside HR to create the right return, which enables the employee to survive and begin to thrive after loss. Drop me a message if you wish to chat further 💬

Is your employee experiencing grief right now? None of us can escape grief, not unless we live on a desert island with a monkey as a companion, (or an old football like in the Tom Hanks film, Castaway, ‘Wilson!’) but what happens when the monkey dies!!!??? We experience grief in so many ways and over the last 10 years we’ve supported many employees through differing scenarios. Contact me to discuss how we support your employees at the right time 💬

Is this hard to read? Here are some comments made by a person in raw grief this last month ⤵️ ‘Then are times when I collapse with grief. There are times when I’m angry and shouting, and there are times when I can’t stop crying or being sick!’ As we know, grief is not linear, it oscillates and can change in a millisecond. Feeling numb, detached, disbelief, panic, overwhelming sadness, yearning, heartache, loneliness, regrets of things unsaid or done, panic about the future or lack of control, confusion, and even guilt around potentially feeling relief if the loved one had a long illness, these are all normal! If you’ve never experienced grief it can be so discombobulating and having an experienced ear to help you through this is key 🔑 Reach out to us to find out how we support employees through the worst time of their lives 💬

The magnitude of experiencing grief is enormous, it literally pulls the emotional rug out from under our feet in a millisecond! With 10 years of experience supporting employees through grief, we know that EVERYONE’s grieving process is deeply personal and complex, it is not linear AND there is no ‘correct’ way to grieve. Grief manifests in so many different ways and varies from person to person, so a one-size-fits-all all process won’t cut it! At Beyond EAP we work with employees in real-time with a flexible approach to support your people in all areas of their life, covering their emotional, physical, cognitive, and even spiritual ways.
