Specialist employee support for life’s toughest challenges

About us

At Beyond EAP, we work alongside enlightened, forward-thinking HR leaders to support, manage, and retain talented employees. We go beyond the services provided by traditional EAP services, because the scenarios we work with are often intense and complex, requiring bespoke personal support. They include diagnosis of a terminal illness, traumatic life events, anxiety and depression, and bereavement, as well as supporting employees returning to work following a long period of absence, such as returning after having a family. By their very nature, these scenarios can be very difficult to manage in a traditional workplace setting, with its fast pace and contrasting expectations. As an employer, finding the right support can have a huge impact on both your retention rate, and your reputation. Here is a non-exhaustive list of issues we are trained to work with: Becoming a new parent Maternity leave coaching Paternity leave coaching Conception coaching support Adoption coaching support Burnout prevention A traumatic birthing delivery, affecting both the mother and father Post-natal trauma Miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death Therapeutic or elective abortion Fertility and conception issues Assault, abuse, coercive control, sexual harassment, and rape Divorce, or a traumatic relationship break-up Debt issues Substance misuse issues Caring responsibilities, including supporting a loved one's long-term illness The aftermath of suicide Stress, anxiety, and depression Loss, grief, and bereavement Long Covid, and returning to work post-Covid Diagnosis of a disease, Take a look at our series of free employee resources which provide support and guidance on a range of related subjects. Can you afford not to have the right support for your employees? Parental leave is not always straightforward, many employees referred to us have other issues, and in this case health issues that HR may not have a clue about. Here’s our latest Parental Coaching feedback from an employee, a Solicitor at a large law firm: “Over the last few months, Sandie has been an incredible source of support for me whilst I navigate the return to work following maternity leave. Arguably, my coaching pathway was not a straightforward one as I had suffered health complications whilst on leave. These health issues compounded my natural anxiety about returning to the workforce after an extended period of absence. From the very first day of our coaching sessions, Sandie was wonderful - she gave me a safe space to speak openly about these challenges, however she also balanced the emotive quality of each session with practical guidance and tips on how to deal with the transition of returning to work. My one regret is that I hadn't sought her support sooner!” If you would like to support your employees, please get in touch! 💬

Line managers and employers, Listen up 📣 How an employee is treated from announcing their pregnancy, through to their return to work can have a massive impact on their decision whether to return to work at all! Your leaver can: ●  Be offered another job ●  An ex-employer approaches them with a job offer ●  Their financial situation may change for the better ●  It’s just too toxic to return ●  Serve out their mat leave pay-back time and leave as soon as they can These are all real scenarios we’ve heard from employees through this last year alone! Over the last 10 years though, some of these real scenarios have also been brought forward to employees on leave who wouldn’t dream of not going back!  Often it’s due to the loyalty, trust, connection, and goodwill the line manager has built up over time. If you are noticing retention issues with your returners, take a look at our online training to guide managers through each stage of employee maternity leave, with real examples, lots of ideas, and much more. We love what we do…. During a maternity coaching session I held with a leader last month, I asked her what transferable skills she is bringing back into the workplace, her reply was, that it was the other way around, that years of guiding teams and people, she was able to use those experiences to help her with her mothering skills. “Children are the easy bit, it's the adults who are more challenging!”

As a line manager, if you sense a male employee might be struggling, refer them to us and we can start the process of confidentiality of supporting them. The statistics are alarming. 46 percent of employees feel embarrassed or ashamed to talk to their manager about mental health struggles. This is especially concerning for the 45 to 64 age bracket where the risk of death by suicide peak. Substantial progress is needed to address the complexities of men’s mental health. A recent study found that over a third of workers (35%) do not feel comfortable letting their line manager know if they are experiencing high or extreme levels of pressure at work. This is particularly concerning when 46 percent of employees identified a supportive line manager and network of colleagues as the two key factors to help them alleviate stress and prevent burnout. Life can change in a blink of an eye and we at Beyond EAP are no different. Last month I was told of a close family member who went from ‘fit, well, and healthy’ to not feeling well, and then immediately being in the hospital. Since then, they have received multiple cancer diagnoses and they have started aggressive chemo. With my experience supporting employees, whether their loved one is facing this or being a family member supporting this scenario I know the importance of self-care and what to do from the very beginning. If an employee has just informed you of their illness or a loved one, please drop me a message (confidentially) to see how I can help them throughout this challenge. https://lnkd.in/d4kAKECb
