Committed to reduce the burden on society of the most reversible cause of cardiovascular disease
About us
The British and Irish Hypertension Society (BIHS) is the premier forum for all working in the field of hypertension and related cardiovascular disease in the UK and Ireland. It comprises a community of scientists and clinicians (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied healthcare professionals) committed to discovering, developing and delivering improved understanding of the causes, treatment and prevention of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. We are dedicated to integrate ground-breaking research with day-to-day clinical care, to reduce the burden on society of this most reversible cause of cardiovascular disease.

It was an absolute honour and pleasure to give an invited talk at British and Irish Hypertension Society #BIHS2024 in Manchester as the recipient of the Best Student Oral Presentation Award from Hypertension Australia. I really enjoyed the opportunity to present my PhD research on the mechanisms of acute brain and kidney injury arising from cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. I would like to thank both societies, my supervisors (Professors Yugeesh Lankadeva, Clive May, Rinaldo Bellomo and Dr. Connie Ow), colleagues, and The Florey for their incredible support in making this amazing experience possible.

We are so excited to be working in partnership with the British and Irish Hypertension Society on this research priority setting project. More than 14 million adults in the UK have high blood pressure – as many as five million of these are thought to be undiagnosed, as there are rarely any symptoms. Through this important project, we will be identifying the most important research questions, that will lead to improved diagnosis and treatment of this silent killer. If you are a healthcare professional working in this area, please take 10 minutes to answer this short survey for the first phase of this project to help prioritise clinical research in hypertension https://lnkd.in/e5asjVwp
🌟 We are proud to support the British and Irish Hypertension Society (BIHS) in their important Research Priority Setting project, aiming to identify and prioritise key areas of research related to hypertension. 🩸Hypertension affects nearly one-third of adults and is the leading preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and all-cause mortality worldwide. This project will help pinpoint gaps in current knowledge and prioritise research areas that can make the most significant impact on public health. By engaging a range of stakeholders, including primary and secondary care professionals and patients, BIHS will ensure that future research efforts are targeted where they can make the biggest difference in hypertension diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. 📝 Phase 1: We invite healthcare professionals including cardiologists, nephrologists, pharmacists, primary care physicians and nurses to complete a short survey to help rate research topics derived from current guidelines and committee brainstorming sessions. Your input will guide the prioritisation process and ultimately improve patient outcomes. 🔗 Complete the survey here: https://lnkd.in/eGBQ8ebt 📩 For more information on this initiative, feel free to contact us at enquiries@bhfcrc.org. Let’s work together to address the most pressing challenges in hypertension! 💪 #HypertensionResearch #HealthcareInnovation #ClinicalResearch #BHFCRC #ResearchQuestions #ResearchPrioritySettingProject Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (PCCS) British Cardiovascular Society BANCC Council Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Known as the silent killer as for the majority of people it's symptomless, by knowing your numbers you can get the advice and guidance to reduce it and prevent stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia and kidney disease. There are an estimated 4 million people in the UK aged 18-64 unaware their blood pressure is high. Get tested today! bloodpressureuk.org
