🌱 Climate change is already a daily reality for smallholders 🌍 At Bio-logical, we understand that climate change isn't just a distant threat—it's a daily challenge for smallholders around the world. Farmers who rely on the land for their livelihoods are facing unpredictable weather patterns, shifting seasons, degraded/dead soils, expensive fertilisers and increasing risks to their crops/livelihoods. Thats why we’re committed to growing resilience and securing futures. #ClimateChange #SustainableAgriculture #SmallholderFarms #Resilience #BioLogical

In Kenya, 61% of land is degraded, threatening the livelihood of the countries 7 million smallholder farmers (and the tens of millions of people who rely on them for food every day). At Bio-Logical, we believe biochar holds the key to turning the tide on these challenges, regenerating degraded soil and sequestering carbon. But how exactly does biochar improve soil and benefit Kenyan Farmers? I've done my best to summarise a few key benefits in this article!

🌍 We're proud to share that Bio-Logical has raised $1.3M to advance our mission of scaling carbon removal and enhancing the climate resilience of smallholder farmers. This funding boost will help us expand our Mt. Kenya facility and significantly increase our biochar production, targeting 100,000 tonnes of CO2 removal annually in the next couple of years. Our efforts are not just about carbon removal; they're about building the resilience of the most climate-vulnerable communities and improving food security. Thank you to our partners and investors Delta Energy Capital, Steyn Group, CrossBoundary Group, and Redshaw Advisors for supporting our commitment to combatting climate change globally and increasing adaptation locally. 🕺 We're super excited to announce our most recent funding round of $1.3m 🕺 These funds will enable us to scale up our Mt.Kenya site, sequestering more carbon! But more importantly, it will help us build the climate resilience of more Kenyan smallholder farmers who are struggling due to the impacts of climate change. Congratulations to the entire Bio-Logical team! https://lnkd.in/eWSBrmDk

Nice work Louis Merlin Mbomen Mbomen and the rest of the production team!!
It feels good to be sequestering carbon! 😎 When Philip Hunter and I started Bio-Logical two years ago, biochar production seemed a very very long way off..... (probably furthur off than we realised!). Fast forward two years and Louis Merlin Mbomen Mbomen and his team are operating 24 hours a day, 6 days a week producing high quality biochar that sequesters carbon and is being used to improve the soils of smallholder farmers throughout the region. Huge congratulations to the whole Bio-Logical team for their roles in taking our greenfield site to commercial production in just seven months!

How does our biochar based bio-fertiliser increase yields and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Kenya? 1. Improved drought resistance: Biochar has been proven to increase soils ability to retain water. This is essential in countries like Kenya where the rains are becoming less frequent and more unpredictable due to climate change. 2. It fixes Acidic Soils: Acidic soils are a huge problem in Kenya as they reduce the availability of Phosphorous and other crucial nutrients. 3. It saves them money: By replacing current practices with Asili, farmers are able to save significant amounts of money per acre which can be spent on things like better nutrition for the family and education. 4. Reduction in nutrient leeching: Biochar's ability to hold nutrient's in the soil for longer means that means that plants receive the nutrients they need and reduces the need for chemical fertilisers.

👊 Great to see Philip Hunter up on stage highlighting the climate mitigation & adaptation solutions we're championing at Bio-Logical!
🌍 Excited to share a few thoughts on the landmark Kenya Carbon Markets Conference 2024! An inspiring event in Nairobi, focusing on one crucial goal: propelling Africa toward sustainable, climate-smart growth. Huge thanks to Hon. Ali Mohamed and Bianca Gichangi for hosting such a visionary event. The insights shared by Hon. Rebecca Miano and Hon. Prof. Njuguna Ndungu were not just enlightening but crucial for our collective journey towards a sustainable future. Seeing the commitment to harness carbon finance for cleaner energy, ecosystem protection, and agricultural enhancement was a highlight. It’s clear – Africa is leading with innovative strategies and bold actions in the global climate narrative. 🌿🌎🚀 This conference was a powerful reminder of our shared potential to turn climate challenges into opportunities for innovation and resilience. Excited to keep this momentum going! #KenyaCarbonConference2024 #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #GreenInnovation #BioLogical
