Youth Voice in Action 🗣️ Our young campaigner Anisah was on BBC Radio Stoke last week, speaking out about junk food ads and Bite Back’s role in shaping the recent House of Lords report on child health.🎙️ Our CEO James Toop was also featured in The Guardian, adding Bite Back’s voice to the national conversation on how Big Food makes most of its profits from selling unhealthy products. James’ comments echo the powerful voices of our youth activists like Anisah, Harrison, and Emmanuel, who’ve shared firsthand how junk food ads have become the “cultural wallpaper” for their generation. The commitment and experiences of our young people are influencing policy, amplifying the message that child health must be protected. 🙌 Check out The Guardian piece here 👉 https://bit.ly/3C308dO

We’re SO proud of Emmanuel, Harrison & Anisah sharing their stories in the House of Lords 🥹 — did you know they were the first ever panel of just young people? Their experiences are featured in the report, highlighting just how vital it is to consider young voices in shaping the future! 🗣️ We want the Government to act on protecting child health, which is why we bring our activists' stories straight to them. 💪 But we need your help to do this. Read Harrison’s statement to see what it means to him when young people are truly heard — https://bb2030.co/9obk

Today's UK House of Lords report is significant. And it needs to be at a time when the health of 1 in 3 children is at risk from food related ill health. The report is bold. It directly calls out three major points in the debate about transforming our food environments. 1. The food industry bears major responsibility. A number of very large, multinational companies dominate the market and are incentivised to produce and sell high profitable unhealthy products. Voluntary measures have been unsuccessful and the industry uses high sophisticated lobbying strategies to influence both Government policymaking and academic research. 2. The debate must shift to prevention. At the same time as these companies profit significantly from creating the problem, pharmaceutical companies now stand from solving it. All at the taxpayer's expense. A smarter way is to regulate the food industry in the public good to prevent ill health before it happens. 3. We need leadership from Government. Successive Governments have not done enough to tackle the rise of unhealthy food. There must be comprehensive, cross-Government food strategy with expanded measures to regulate including a total ban on unhealthy food advertising, new taxes on unhealthy food and mandatory targets for healthier sales. Harrison, Anisah and Emmanuel from Bite Back were pleased to give evidence to the Committee and we support their recommendations. Now is a moment to act. There is public support, evidence and clear policies to transform our food environments. We just need to act. Do you remember when Anisah, Emmanuel, and Harrison went to Westminster to give evidence to the House of Lords? 🤔 Well, today’s the day it all pays off! 🤩 A new report from the House of Lords is OUT, and the recommendations have us buzzing. They’ve called for a ban on ALL junk food ads across physical and digital platforms, along with other measures to protect child health, including a review of the school food standards for school meals. 👏 THIS is what we’ve been fighting for at Bite Back and it’s a HUGE moment for us. After years of campaigning, it’s so incredible to see the voices and experiences of our activists reflected in the House of Lords’ recommendations. ❤️ Our young activists are at the forefront of change, but we can’t do this without your support! Change takes time, but we’re committed 💪 Fighting for a better food system is tough, and policy change takes time. That’s why it’s important to reflect on how far we’ve come and celebrate the successes. Let’s take a look at our journey towards making great school food available for all young people! We’ve been fighting for this for FIVE years, alongside other brilliant organisations and individuals for much longer, so we’re delighted to see change IS happening 🤩

We’re celebrating 5 years of Bite Back! 🎉 In October 2019, we had our official launch party for Bite Back — and what a moment it was! Hungry for change and ready for action, industry heavyweights, decision-makers and, most importantly, founding members of the Bite Back Youth Board (recognise any familiar faces 😆), all got together to celebrate the start of something new and ambitious. From 12 youth activists to over 12,000 strong, our appetite for change hasn’t faded—if anything, we’ve only gotten hungrier.💪 We may still be young as far as birthdays go, but we’ve already had some incredible wins in our journey to protect the health of a generation. And there’s a lot more to do! Stay tuned as we dive into how we’ve been cooking up change for the last five years…👀

Standing ovation for Edda and Yacub! 🔥 Our young activists took to the main stage at the British Society of Lifestyle and Medicine conference last month, sharing their experiences growing up in a broken food system to over 200 medical professionals. How impressive is that? They both batted away any nerves — presenting calmly and confidently, and were met with roaring applause AND a standing ovation after their speech! 👏 We were delighted to be a part of this event and to reach different audiences. It’s SO important for our young people to share their experiences far and wide — everyone has a role to play in change! 📸 British Society of Lifestyle Medicine #BSLM2024

From The Guardian to Country Living, we’ve got the nation talking about the impact Big Food has on our planet 👀🌎 Our latest #FuelUsDon’tFoolUs report unearthed some cold, hard facts about what the Top 10 food manufacturers are doing to our planet — and it’s been hitting the headlines! It’s no mean feat getting national coverage and we’re blown away by the support our research has had 🙌 Let’s keep the momentum up, because we can see a world that is healthier for us, and healthier for our planet.

100 days later… 👀 What has the new Government achieved for child health? 🤔 📺 Announced the ban on junk food ads online and on TV before 9pm will be coming into force from October 2025 🫗Committed to ban energy drink sales to under-16s 🥑 Committed to empower local authorities to create healthier environments 🚌 PLUS, nine UK mayors (AKA the Metro Mayors) pledged to end junk food ads on their public transport networks We’ve been fighting for these changes for years, and are SO excited to see them come through. 💯 But our work isn’t over. So, we have a message for the Government: we like what you’ve started, but we’ve got plenty more in the works to protect child health! And a message for you: will you keep the fight going by signing our letter to Keir Starmer asking him to meet with our young activists? Click here 👉 https://bb2030.co/d381
