The global mental health crisis affects us all. MTV Entertainment Studios and University of Southern California have already made a significant impact in the U.S. with the #MentalHealth Media Guide. Now, #Paramount is expanding this initiative globally by bringing together storytellers and mental health experts to explore what’s needed next on an international scale. In partnership with Prospira Global, we hosted a session at the United Nations SDG Media Zone and convened a high-level roundtable at Paramount's NYC HQ to explore the future of global mental health storytelling. Our aim is to create engaging content through stories that resonate with audiences around the world. During these discussions, we tackled the complexities of depicting mental health on screen and developed new insights to empower creators to produce even more impactful content. A key takeaway was the importance of regional and cultural expertise in crafting authentic portrayals of mental health. As content creators, we have both the responsibility to ensure our work does no harm and the power to shift perceptions—helping audiences worldwide embrace the truth that #MentalHealthIsHealth.
