Yesterday I went to: Children, Young People, & Parents Creative Health Gala Showcase in Lambeth Town Hall in celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth and #WorldMentalHealthDay It was great to hear the Black Mental Health Manifesto read aloud by 3 powerful women and hear about the work of BAYO, Future Men and Black Thrive. I also got to hear more about the CAMHS reimagined project, lead by Tony Cealy and watch and participate in a stirring performance by a group of young actors that included provocations around the reality and challenges young people face - inviting conversations around where solutions might be found. I was there with YoungMinds - sharing an opportunity to test an MVP of the new service we have been co-designing with young Black people. It's been 2 years in the making and proud to be able to share a real thing, built by and for this community, to support them in a way that works for them.

As part of #BlackHistoryMonth and #WorldMentalHealthDay celebrations, #BlackMenOnTheCouch addresses the barriers faced by men of African heritage in discussing their worries while showcasing role models who share their emotions. Previous guests have included Benjamin Zephaniah, Ashley Walters, David Lammy, and Stan Collymore. Developed by Rotimi Akinsete, a Black male counsellor, Black Men on the Couch aims to combat mental health stigma and encourage open discussions about mental and emotional health, especially among Black men. This powerful film explores the impact of Covid-19 on Black and racially minoritised people living with severe mental and physical health challenges. This film is part of a groundbreaking research project by peer researchers with lived experience, in collaboration with King's College London and ourselves.
