This #Mentalhealthawarenessmonth we’re amplifying inspirational movers and changemakers within our community who are pushing for better mental health and wellbeing outcomes for Black people here in the UK. Uplifting their essential voices, telling their stories their way and understanding what moves them, why they keep moving forward for the community and their hopes for the future. This campaign serves as a reminder of the power in unity and the strength in collective support and action. We cannot forget to actively support the organisations that are supporting us. It’s an honour to bring together such powerful voices in the mental health and wellbeing sector for intimate conversations to be shared all throughout the month. You’re in for a treat! • Our founder Rhiane Fatinikun MBE collected her MBE Award on Wednesday and we couldn’t be prouder. Rhiane’s commitment to creating safe and inclusive spaces for Black women to explore the outdoors is at the core of our work here at BGH and we are glad to see her getting her flowers! It goes without saying that we, as a community, would not exist without Rhiane's commitment to diversifying the outdoors. But, beyond that, we are so grateful for her work in pioneering, championing and leading this community- we can, because she did 🙌 .

  • 🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 We’re thrilled to share that we’ve been shortlisted for the next Black Funding Network event! Join us this Thursday as we pitch for funds to make our camping weekend a reality again. We had the best time creating space for community and connection at our last camping weekend, and so we will be pitching to do this once again 🙌 At each event, three Black-led grassroots organisations like ours get the chance to showcase their work and secure vital funding, and so we would love to see you there in person or virtual as we make the case for Black Girls Hike UK. Whether you join us in person in London or virtually, your support would be greatly appreciated. You can get your tickets here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJ6mQ5b8

  • We wrapped up March with a 10K youth walk as part of our The Sweaty Betty Foundation Youth Programme and Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) Licence. As ever, our commitment to diversifying the outdoors means identifying opportunities to do so, and that looks like creating spaces for young people from ethnic minority backgrounds to access opportunities to experience the outdoors and join programmes they may otherwise not be able to. On our hike, we enjoyed a circular route along the Peak District National Park starting at Dovestone Reservoir, and then on to Sovestone Reservoir Memorial Forest, Chew Reservoir, and Celebration Wood. The time allowed our team to create a space young people outside of the confines of a classroom, and into the openness of the outdoors. Since then, we have had two young people register for our Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme, and we are excited to support them on completing their expeditions in June. The benefits of achieving a DofE Award at any level are endless, and as many of our participants say, it’s life-changing. So, if you know a young person aged 14-24 that would be interested, you can find out how more on our website! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFce2whi
