There is something profound about the bond of a tribe!

About us

Black Men Teach is a community network with the aim of tackling inequalities Black men face in education at its root, whilst amplifying their voices and celebrating successes. At Black Men Teach, our structure has 4 arms enabling us to achieve our mission: 1) Forums/Talks - Conferences, CPD, Teach Meets, Research Discussion that are held periodically both in person and virtually. 2) Mentoring/Support - Providing one to one mentoring and/or group sessions to support Black men through the ITT process. Similarly curating safe spaces for current teachers to reflect, share and receive support on challenges they may be facing in education. 3) Community Hub - A social aspect of BMT, creating opportunities where Black Male Educators can lay down their tools for some fun, laughter, good food/drink and great company! 4) Outreach - Extending our work into secondary schools and universities, changing the narrative with regard to a career in education particularly looking at the recruitment and work with educational establishments to improve this! A message from the founders of Black Men Teach, Albert & Johnoi: We are just at the beginning of our journey bringing together Black Male Educators as a collective, we are not naive and understand we can’t do this alone and are standing on the shoulders of this that have gone before us. We ask that you trust us and give us an opportunity to do something great!

We’ve been hard at work and now we are ready to begin again! The data is stark when it comes to black boys... * Black pupils are more punitively disciplined (DfE, 2006) * Black males are labelled as hyper-masculine (Joseph-Salisbury - 2019) So, If you know a young male from an African and Caribbean background between the ages of 15 - 17 then point them in our direction. The Bridge Mentoring Programme is all about journey with young boys and creating positive experiences for them in school. Deadline is 1st November 2024 ⏳⏰ https://lnkd.in/gax-NAT5

We're excited to unveil Edurio's latest national research, "Staff Wellbeing in Academies," which sheds light on the wellbeing disparities among various staff groups in England’s schools. This extensive study, based on the Edurio Staff Experience and Wellbeing Survey, gathered insights from over 11,000 responses, including teachers, leaders, administrators, teaching assistants, and maintenance staff between September 2023 and March 2024. Key insights: Teachers: Scored the lowest in five of six wellbeing measures, reporting higher levels of mental and physical health concerns and overwork, with leaders closely following in overwork (50%). Disabled Staff: Experienced significantly lower wellbeing (21%) compared to non-disabled staff (43%), and higher stress levels (56% vs. 44%). LGBTQ+ Staff: Reported more stress (54%) and lower overall wellbeing (33%) compared to heterosexual staff (46% and 24%, respectively). Women: Faced more stress (47%) and lower wellbeing (39%) than men (42% and 46%, respectively). Yet, amidst these challenges, there’s hope: over half of the teachers (54%) often feel excited about their work, showcasing their passion and commitment. Leadership staff were particularly positive, with 77% feeling excited about their work. This research is crucial for understanding how we can foster a supportive and healthy working environment in our schools. We encourage you to read the full report and explore actionable steps to improve teacher wellbeing. 🔗 Access the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gEDTfd-C Let's use these findings to drive meaningful change and support our educators. #EdurioResearch #StaffWellbeing #Education #TeacherWellbeing #MentalHealth #DiversityAndInclusion #LeadershipInEducation
