𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 | Next week is National Care Leavers' Week. In Blackpool, we're dedicated to supporting our children in care and care leavers. During half term, our team organised a range of activities for our care leavers to try new things, meet new people, and have fun. ✅ They've explored Liverpool, visited attractions including Showtown and The Gruffalo Clubhouse, enjoyed a private screening of Deadpool & Wolverine at Backlot Cinema and so much more. A huge thank you to our partners and a number of local businesses for their incredible support including Northern, Showtown Blackpool, Blackpool Libraries, Backlot Cinema, The Covenant, Merlin Entertainments and Nando's UK & IRE who sponsored these events. ✔ Blackpool Council gets Blackpool Transport ‘on board’ for the Bystander Green Dot programme! The Bystander Green Dot Intervention is a primary prevention strategy that sits underneath the Blackpool #ItStopsHere movement, which is a community safety programme for safer streets. The aim is to create a safer environment for everyone. Blackpool Transport Services Limited have now joined forces to help spread the message across their fleet of vehicles and to users of public transport. Using a community responsibility approach, the violence prevention strategy depends on the power of bystanders or witnesses to prevent violence and shift social and cultural norms. Blackpool Transport are supporting the campaign by promoting a simple message on public transport that one small act can have a big impact to help keep people safe. They have rolled out the Green Dot briefing, provided by Blackpool Public Health’s trainers, to all staff to help explain the programme and equip them with the knowledge on how best to deal with any reported incidents by passengers. Blackpool Council’s Public Health team offer regular Green Dot training opportunities to local businesses, organisations, community groups and individuals.
