Starting a consumer business is pretty damn hard. As a founder, you're facing lots of set backs, lots of "no's", lots of people doubting you. I've heard it all since I've started Ganddee. "Given your background in Fintech you could have launched something like Revolut, instead, you're wasting your time building a mobile app for thrifting" "You're heading the wrong way, we're not in the 60s anymore, shopping IRL is over" and many more... But, I don't really care! The reality is, I didn't start Ganddee to serve everyone on day 1. I didn't launch a startup for the sole purpose of boosting my ego: raising lots of money and being on the front page of Forbes. This is not the goal. I've started Ganddee to bring value to our users and to the shops listed on the app. I've started Ganddee to make the life of thrifters, vegan eaters and people who want to live more sustainably, easier. To connect them with physical stores and pop-up events they will love. To help our favorite local shops thrive and grow. This is the only goal: creating connections between our users and shops they will love. And trust me, each connection we create offsets 1,000 "no's" we received. Delivering value to our users is absolutely priceless. When I receive an email, DM on Insta / Discord / Whatsapp from a user who discovered a new amazing shop thanks to Ganddee - trust me, I'm dancing like a freak. When your product brings value to people, it just feels like magic. And creating these magic moments is really what it's all about.

I've got mixed feelings about H&M and co. 👍 They're offering pre-loved items and rentals sections. Pretty cool. 👎 Each of these sections feels like a mouse trap because of where they're located in the shop. To get a rental or get to the pre-loved area, you must walk all the way to the back of the shop. To "rent", you must browse through the whole section of new stuffs to get there. In a shop, shelve position is the sinews of war. That's pretty well known. So, clearly, putting sustainable alternatives all the way to the back is a move for brands to: 1. Be seen as "green" - and attract more customers 2. Fuel the status quo and keep selling new cheap stuffs If H&M was so committed to sustainability, they would put pre-loved and rental sections at the front of their shops, or better, in specific rental / pre-loved H&M stores.
