Bodyswaps sponsored an award! ✨ We're proud to say we sponsored the Award for Excellence in Communication at Burton and South Derbyshire College's recent FE awards ceremony. BSDC nominated three incredible candidates and we found it very difficult to make our selection. But ultimately the winner stood out to us thanks to the incredible work she's done throughout her apprenticeship, building a variety of soft skills and truly exemplifying what it means to be a great communicator. Congratulations to our winner! And a big thank you to Zoe Tierney for presenting the award on our behalf. 🏆

You might have seen that Ben, our CRO, was lucky enough to go to #MetaConnect24 last week. Check out his vlog from the event below. 👇 And be sure to read his blog article if you haven't already: https://lnkd.in/e9dQnE_3 🚀

Just back from Meta Connect 2024! 🚀 And yes, I attempted to shoot a vlog… emphasis on “attempted.” 🎥😅 Between wrestling with my camera and dodging a hurricane, I found the time to outline what excited me most about Meta Connect 2024 - and it wasn't the Orion Glasses. Check out my article below (and my slightly shaky vlog) for the highlights, lowlights, and everything in between. 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d3256aQP Curious to know what you think—did I nail it, or should I stick to typing? 😅

Discover how Claudia and the team Newham College of Further Education have used Bodyswaps to build a range of soft skills for their students. 🤩

At Newham College of Further Education we always aim to innovate for best experience for our students and staff. Bodyswaps have made a big difference in enhancing employability, including increased confidence linked to interviews, self-management, bias awareness and many other skills that make our students ready for work, Higher Education and lifelong learning, while supporting personal development. VR is AI powered and creates a safe space for students to develop valuable future-proof skills. We piloted this with managers in January and slowly built up to different groups of students. To date, our students accessed more than 1200 classes across both campuses and the data speaks for itself in terms of impact. We look forward to expanding our use of flipped learning and module integration into the curriculum in the months to come. Thank you Emily Lakin and Laura Heath Our digital coaches Sindhu Baskaran, Mohi Uddin, M. Ridwaan Nazir and Cordel McFarlane have worked really hard to make this happen. Earlier this month, Ben Naughton-Rumbo and Tylar Nicklis took a trip to Elizabeth City State University to visit their brand new Virtual Reality Lab and to run a Bodyswaps workshop with some faculty members. ✨ They had a great time with Tarsha M. Rogers, Ph.D., Gregory Miller, and the team at ECSU - we're looking forward to what this group of innovators can achieve in the future. 🚀 #USHE #NorthCarolina #ECSU #VRinEducation #AIinEducation

Here's part 2 of our Q&A following our webinar with Cindy Leggott and Nadeema Omar from Regina Work Preparation Centre earlier this month: ❓It sounds like you are having quite the success in running VR in your service delivery - was it always this easy or did you stumble on a magic formula?❓ Nadeema: I am lucky to have joined the team once they had their magic formula figured out so I got to skip the growing pains. It did take time to get to where we are. Initial challenges were getting buy-in from the team; and making time to test out the modules and developing our own best practices. I believe we worked backwards in the early days and developed best practices before we even had first practices. So, for example: rolling chairs were an issue because clients would roll out the boundaries and exit Bodyswaps; practitioners would sit in the room during the sessions which made participants uncomfortable. I believe it took about a year of trial and error before we were running smoothly. We were also not debriefing after each module (Bodyswaps provides good material to use for this!). Without discussion, we can’t identify what the participant has gained from the session and the way they can apply these skills in real-life situations. Cindy: The first year was rough to get buy-in from all of us at the Regina Work Preparation Centre. Honestly, the concern among Career Practitioners was it was going to either make our jobs more complicated or take our jobs away. The first year the VR team used to have signs they would bring to staff meetings. Each time a CM brought up a concern they would hold up one of 2 signs. The signs read: THIS IS WHERE YOU USE VR THIS IS WHERE YOU USE BODYSWAPS As funny as that may sound, that's how I decided to try both for myself and I was able to see how both would enhance the work I do with clients. It is absolutely crucial that if anyone is asking clients to use these technologies they have gone through the experience for themselves first so they can work with their client, and be relatable and knowledgeable about what the client will experience. 💡Great insights once again from Cindy and Nadeema! Exciting times are on the way for Psychology BSc students at York St. John University with Matthew Coxon's holistic plans for VR across all three years. 🚀 We can't wait to hear how this year goes. ✨

Senior Lecturer at York St. John University, Programme Lead (BSc Psychology)

New students start Monday and I'm very excited about this year! We now have VR opportunities embedded all the way from first year to final year of our Psychology BSc. All carefully aligned with the stage and level (e.g. Bloom's taxonomy): 👩💻 First years will be using the excellent Bodyswaps to gain knowledge and skills related to employment. 🦍 Second years will get the chance to experience a classic study (the invisible gorilla) in VR, to help them think critically about ecological validity. 🎯 Third years will be creating their own knowledge with VR-based dissertation projects (if they chose that option), whilst on the optional module 'Memory Improvement' we'll be critically evaluating the very latest VR apps for improving memory. I'm super aware that VR isn't for everyone so there are plenty of ways of taking part in the sessions without having to wear the headsets (from desktop alternatives to casting on to big screens). We've been doing bits like this for years but this is our first shot at a more holistic approach across the degree. Really grateful to Theo Jones, Callum Glenn, Janie Gonsalez, Barrie Grey and many others for helping us get to this point. Fingers crossed it all goes well 🤞
