𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝟭𝟭 𝟮𝟰𝗛𝟮 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 The upcoming 24H2 update for Windows 11 is introducing a suite of new features and improvements, but it’s also retiring a classic tool: 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗣𝗮𝗱. For nearly 30 years, 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗣𝗮𝗱 has provided users with a straightforward way to handle .doc and .rtf files without the complexity of 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱. This simple text editor has been a reliable tool for quick document edits. However, with this latest update, 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 is recommending Word for more complex document handling or 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗱 for plain text needs. Notably, 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗱 now includes added functionality, such as tabbed browsing, offering a more robust text editing experience. If 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗱 is still integral to your workflow, you can retain access by backing up the 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗱 files from the Accessories folder before installing the 24H2 update. Alternatively, it remains accessible via your system’s backup archive—though it will no longer appear in the Start menu, it can be pinned to the taskbar for quick access. 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 continues to see performance and productivity improvements, particularly beneficial for business environments. The 24H2 update includes enhancements to features like Favourites and Browser Essentials, enabling pages to load up to 42% faster on average and up to 76% faster on lower-end devices. Improved speed, advanced security features, and optimised memory usage make 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 a strong candidate for teams focused on efficiency and cybersecurity.
