Bolton Hospice
Non-profit Organizations
We provide free expert care and support for local people facing terminal and life-limiting illnesses and their families.
About us
We provide free care services to people in Bolton with life-limiting illnesses, it costs £400 every hour for us to do this, and as an independent charity we have to fundraise the first £300 every hour, every day of the year. The expert palliative care we provide addresses all patient needs, not just the physical such as the relief of pain and other symptoms, but also psychological and spiritual care. We aim to enhance the quality of life and also positively influence the course of illness. Our consultant led team of doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals are dedicated to providing patients, their families and carers with the support required to ease their burden and maintain their dignity as they face enormous personal challenges. We provide this care both at the hospice and also in the homes of patients who are in the final stages of life.

Yesterday, hospice leaders from across Greater Manchester, including our CEO and Chair of GM Hospices Provider Collaborative, Dr (h.c) Leigh Vallance, have visited Parliament to ask MPs to support their calls for a fairer funding model for hospices: 🎉 Hospices play a vital part in our healthcare system, but this care is at risk. Increasing demand, long term underinvestment and rising costs, mean many hospices are struggling to maintain their services. This, in turn, places more demands on the NHS. 👉 The new 10-year health plan provides an opportunity to put this right. Currently £11.7bn is spent on health care for people in the last year of life in the UK, but 80% of that funding is spent in hospitals. We believe this money could be better used by investing in hospice care, which currently only receives 4% of this funding. ✅ We know from experience that hospice care reduces hospital admissions, speeds up hospital discharges, keeps care in the community and makes it more likely that people can die in the place of their choosing. This is better for the patient, better for their loved ones and better for the NHS.

This one-off funding will help us pay for some urgent work needed to upgrade our heating system. What an incredibly important piece of work from Hospice UK, highlighting how hospice care is so much more than people might think, and just how important a role Gifts in Wills play in securing that care for future generations. Here at Bolton Hospice, that's as important as 1 in 5 of our patients being cared for by Gifts in Wills! Thank you to Hospice UK, and to everyone in our community who has, or plans to, leave a Gift in their Will for Bolton Hospice, helping us to keep caring from the heart 💜
We're proud to announce the launch of the "This is Hospice Care" campaign, a groundbreaking collaboration between 143 hospices, brought together by Hospice UK. Hospices are at the very heart of communities, offering compassionate care and support when we need it most. But just as this incredible support wouldn't exist without hospices across the UK, hospice care wouldn't exist without the incredible generosity of their local communities. That's why we’ve brought hospices together to shine a light on the essential role they play in our communities and to protect their futures. We're asking everyone to consider leaving a Gift in their Will to a hospice close to their heart. By doing so, you can help ensure that everyone has the support they need for generations to come. Together, we can make sure that hospice care lives on for all, for now, forever. https://lnkd.in/dppajFb8
