Milking the Mother of All Movements 🐮 To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week this week, we want to shout out to another female-founded company: our friends and fellow scientists over at BoobyBiome who are doing incredible work to translate cutting edge breast milk research into solutions to improve infant health. But they need your help! Hertility's CEO and Founder Dr Helen O'Neill has already donated her breastmilk to further boobybiome's research. So this is a call to urge you to move out from the ovulation station and check into the lactation station by donating your breastmilk (or sharing this with any of your milking friends!) 🍼 It's super simple to do. 🍼 They'll come and collect it from your house and compensate for your time. 🍼 You'll contribute to groundbreaking research, helping boobybiome transform infant health. If you're not breastfeeding, give their page a follow to support their milk mission! Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eE3YfkqX Dr. Sioned Fôn Jones

The breast milk microbiome probably doesn't spring to mind when thinking about healthtech innovations. But it will after this week's episode! Dr. James Somauroo, is joined by Dr. Sioned Fôn Jones, co-founder of BoobyBiome – a biotech company making significant strides in revolutionising infant health. Sioned shares her journey in building a biotech company based on her scientific research into the breast milk microbiome, and a mission to ensure every baby has equal access to a healthy future. Tune into Sioned's episode today to discover how the breast milk microbiome is helping address health inequities for those unable to breastfeed. We are very proud of our CEO Dr. Lydia Mapstone for receiving a purple plaque from Innovate UK as part of their purple plaque initiative. It will be hung up at the entrance of GRAVENEY TRUST - Graveney School, Franciscan Primary School & Tooting Primary School, Lydia's secondary school, to inspire their students to consider a career in STEM and entrepreneurship 🔬 https://lnkd.in/gNQzVD4T
The Women in Innovation Purple Plaque scheme by Innovate UK is a brilliant initiative. It’s disheartening that only 15% of blue plaques around London feature women, despite our countless achievements. These purple plaques, honoring the Women in Innovation cohort at their old schools and universities, are a brilliant way to foster role-modeling relationships between the cohort and the younger generation. However, when I received my plaque, I felt a mix of pride and trepidation. I am proud of my achievements, having earned my PhD whilst building the company with my co-founders Dr. Sioned Fôn Jones and Tara O'Driscoll, PhD, and keeping BoobyBiome running and growing for five years, especially considering 50% of startups don’t make it past this milestone. It’s even more significant given that UK female-backed startups received seven times less financial backing than their male counterparts last year. It was very nostalgic to be back, particularly catching up with my A-Level Biology teacher Stuart Finch who inspired me to study the subject at University and meet Louise Sutton, a current Physics teacher who organises many of the Schools women in STEM events, in addition to having the Principle Cynthia Rickman present the plaque. However, the mixed feelings come as I am still early in my career, and BoobyBiome has not yet launched our first product! To me, success is: - Publishing our first paper, showcasing the surprising findings we’ve uncovered in breast milk, a vastly underfunded research area 🔬 - Seeing the results from our first clinical trial, proving we’ve improved the health outcomes for infants 👶 - Receiving our first 5-star review from a mother who struggled with breastfeeding and found a solution in our products 🤱 This plaque is a nod to my achievements but, more importantly, it serves as a reminder to stay accountable to our ambitions at BoobyBiome. I hope to look back in 20 years and think, "They were right damn right to give me this plaque!" ✊ #WomenInInnovation #RoleModels #Entrepreneurship #STEM #FemaleFounders #Innovation #HealthTech #WomenInSTEM #Startups

Check out CPI's post to learn more about what we do at BoobyBiome HQ!
We live our whole lives co-existing with millions of friendly bacteria that live on our skin and in our guts 🦠 They're known as the microbiome - and they provide many health benefits from digestion to the immune system and even the brain. But how do they get into our bodies at such a young age? Amongst the first bacteria that colonise our guts after birth are those that are delivered through breastfeeding, however, breastfeeding is not always an available option. This is where BoobyBiome steps in, a start-up revolutionizing the field of infant health. Through rigorous scientific testing, BoobyBiome is researching the bacteria contained in breast milk so that they can develop products that mimic its microbiome. These can then be added as a supplement to formula or breast milk, to ensure every baby has access to an intact breast milk microbiome, promoting equal access to a healthy future 🍼 Learn more ➡ https://lnkd.in/eQw9gZxF Clare Trippett Asif Tulah Philip Probert Jonathan Jones Natasha Lethbridge Lydia Mapstone, PhD Dr. Sioned Fôn Jones Tara O'Driscoll, PhD Dr Helen O'Neill #Microbiome | #Healthcare | #Pharma #LetsInnovateTogether | #Innovation | #DeepTech

This infant feeding product is going to change lives 🍼⬇️ "Breast is best" describes the benefits of breastfeeding, which includes essential good bacteria for the healthy development of the infant gut microbiome 👶 But what if breastfeeding is not an option? BoobyBiome is developing a supplement that contains live bacteria isolated from breast milk. This could be easily added to formula or breast milk to ensure that every baby has access to beneficial breast milk bacteria. With CPI’s support, BoobyBiome has: 🦠 Optimised and scaled their bacterial fermentation process. 🧫 Conducted a feasibility study on co-culturing multiple species of bacteria at scale. 👩🔬 Gained access to state-of-the-art-equipment, including high throughput bioreactor systems for process development. By enabling the success of this unique and necessary product, we can help give babies a better start in life, one tiny gut microbiome at a time.
