✅ BOOM POWER has successfully achieved planning consent for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located at Carrog Ganol, near Cemaes in Wales. The BESS will have the ability to import and export up to 300 megawatts (MW) of power through its connection with the transmission network and is anticipated to have an energy capacity in the region of 660 megawatt-hours (MWh), allowing charge and discharge of power for at least two-hours. This scheme measures 38.7 acres (15.6 hectares) and does not comprise Best and Most Versatile (BMV) agricultural land. 🔋 At a local level The Isle of Anglesey Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2020, and it has prepared its ‘Towards Net Zero Plan 2022 to 2025’ to transform into a Net Zero organisation. At a national level, the UK governments world-leading policy to phase out coal power has reached its end as the UK saw the shutdown of a 142-year history of coal-fired electricity. Whilst this is a major achievement to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions it also signals the crucial necessity to increase resilience in the UK energy grid. Added to this, projections suggest a doubling of electricity consumption in the UK by 2050 due to the decarbonisation of energy use including electrification of cars, heating systems and data centers. Therefore, as we transition, this scheme will help to address these local and national ambitions over its 40-year operational lifespan. On the 19th August at 17:49 UTC - 45 days, 5 hours, and 15 minutes after leaving Quidi Vidi, Canada, Tom crossed the North-South line at Bishop's Rock in the Scilly Isles, United Kingdom! 🥳 • And we have no other word to use, than simply INCREDIBLE! 🙌 • After crossing the line, and later requesting support from the local RNLI team to help get him into St. Mary's Harbour, Tom eventually clambered up the harbour ladder to take his first steps on to land the following day, before eventually getting over to Penzance to see his family and friends. 💖 • After being able to see his fiancé and his parents, he met with everyone that had made the journey to Cornwall to see him...before promptly heading to the pub! 🍻 • It was an occasion that was absolutely fuelled by love. Both from the people that came to see Tom, and from Tom to them....it was, as we've said, simply incredible. 🥰 • An ENORMOUS thank you to all of the sponsors that helped to make this event possible. This was a WILD ride, it tested Tom to his physical and mental limits, but in doing so he was able to raise well over £60,000 for the mental health charity Mind - and was able to inspire thousands of people in the process. We will be holding a first stage consultation event to introduce the project and collect feedback from the public on Wednesday 4 September at the Burnhead Community Centre (Burnhead Street, Uddingston, Viewpark G71 5AT) between 3pm and 7pm. THIS FOOTAGE IS WILD! 🤩 • Tom has backed up his voice note this morning with some of the most amazing footage we've ever seen from an ocean rowing boat! 🤯 • Yesterday he found himself surrounded by a school of what we believe are long finned pilot whales. Initially ten, then twenty, then more and more! It was an amazing experience until one of the excitable whales slammed into the side of his boat! 💥😨 • Whilst Tom could see they were just being playful, he was (rightly) terrified that their fun and games could mean that he loses his rudder in the process! As a solo, unsupported ocean rower, losing a rudder would be a major problem. 😱 • Tom tried to row away from the pod, but they just followed him - and their numbers grew. This school of whales turned into a university of whales! 💚🔋 Introducing our latest project, Gartclush Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Situated near Plean, south of Stirling, Scotland. BOOM POWER will be holding first consultation events to introduce the project and gather feedback from the public on 26th June at East Plean Primary School between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, and on 27th June at the Balfour Centre in Plean between 11.30am and 2.30pm. The proposed Gartclush facility, north-east of Carr’s Hill, will consist of battery units which store excess energy from renewable developments, and release it into the grid during spikes in demand. This technology reduces the risk of local power outages and leads to cheaper energy prices, to the benefit of all consumers and the wider economy. The project will include other associated electrical infrastructure as well as substantial new landscaping and significant ecological enhancements.
