Last week, we had the privilege of attending the BYP Leadership Conference, and what an empowering event it was! The day was filled with insightful talks and panel discussions, shining a light on critical Diversity, Equity & Inclusion topics within the Black community. We were particularly inspired by Emmanuel Asuquo's opening talk focusing in on the role of social mobility and the role we all have to play in acknowledging and addressing the barriers it can present to large parts of the community. A huge congratulations to BYP Network for hosting such a fantastic event! We're proud to have been a part of it and look forward to future collaborations. #BYPLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #Leadership #CareerDevelopment

🌟 Catching up with Laila Abdin-Winter, Warner Hotels Brand & PR Director and 2024 WiHTL UK&I Women Leaders Programme Graduate 🌟 We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Laila Abdin-Winter, about her transformative experience as part of the 2024 WiHTL UK&I Women Leaders Programme. Here's what she had to say: How has the WiHTL Women in Leadership programme impacted your career and personal growth? "It was a real honour to be invited to take part in such a great programme. Being part of this programme allowed me the opportunity to pause and focus on me. Sometimes you can get so caught up in the day to day that you forget to allow yourself the time to think about yourself and personal growth. I learnt so much on this journey and was inspired. I have been focusing more on myself, the things that worry me, drive me, and areas where I want to grow. It also made me think about a future for myself that I didn’t think was possible… of course, one day I can be c-suite level if I work hard and believe in myself." Can you share a specific skill or insight gained from the programme that has been particularly transformative in your leadership journey? "We heard from so many incredible and inspirational women, two in particular stood out to me as I could really relate to parts of their experience. Being a working mum is tough and there are times where you question if you can do the two. Being a part of a company like Bourne Leisure and this programme, and hearing from these incredible women, has proved that you can! And most importantly, it reminded me that I am already doing the two. 😊" How has your network and support system evolved as a result of participating in the WiHTL Women in Leadership programme? "I was lucky to be grouped with three insightful and lovely ladies from different industries, and we learnt a lot from each other and had numerous engaging conversations. The programme also gave me the opportunity to spend more time with women in Warner Hotels who I work with often but don’t get the time to just talk about us, our careers, growth, etc. I feel closer to all of them since finishing the programme." Here's to the amazing journey ahead! 🙌 #WiHTL #WomenInLeadership #WarnerHotels #InspiringWomen #CareerGrowth #LeadershipJourney

🌟 It may have been Disability Pride Month last month, but we believe in sharing our team stories all year long! 💙 Meet Rachel Hutchings, Park & Financial Safety Advisor at Hafan Y Mor. 🔎 What brought you to Haven? Such a well-known and highly regarded brand with a caring and "family" ethos I connect with!🏠 💬 Why are you passionate about Disability Inclusion / Disability Pride? My dad is disabled, with something called "complex regional pain syndrome" (CRPS) for short; a multi-system condition that can spread around the body. I grew up with his disability so to me it was our "normal" and it wasn't till I was a bit older that I understood and saw what disability discrimination was. 💔 My parents have both supported and worked for disability charities and through their work and advocacy I've learnt so much. 🚧 What barriers do you think we face in disability inclusion? Sometimes, I appreciate that it can happen purely because someone does not know otherwise, for example calling an "accessible parking space” a "disabled space" - the space doesn't have a disability but is made for someone who needs more access; it's something I've witnessed on park too. Get someone to help guide you around park with your eyes closed or see if there is any mobility equipment you can borrow to use to really see how accessible our areas are and what barriers people with a physical disability might face! 🌟 Are there any individuals who have inspired you in your career or personal life regarding disability inclusion? It sounds corny but my parents, and specifically my Dad. At the "peak" of my dad's disability in my childhood, my mum worked a full time job as well as looking after my sister and I whilst caring for my dad, which included daily visits to hospital if he was in; my sister and I never missed out on clubs, parties or any opportunities. 🤝 What can we all do to play our part in allyship for those with a disability? As I said above, I know that it's so easy to not have any understanding of what living with a disability is like, but there are loads of local disability charities and groups across the UK that I'm sure would support any park or Hemel in sharing experiences. And sometimes, just the smallest thing can make a difference- from a Park perspective, even if someone's in a wheelchair, it doesn't mean they can't speak for themselves, so talk directly to them if they speak to you, or simply ask them or their family what would help them best!💬💙 #DisabilityInclusion #Allyship #HavenFamily #DisabilityPride

🎉🎉 Celebrating Disability Pride Month! 🎉🎉 We're proud to share what Disability Pride means to Sermet Baykaner, our Group Procurement Director. ⭐️I'm father to two amazing, identical twin, daughters, Madeline and Isabella, and husband to Emma (also awesome!). We live in Hampshire with a pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (Beanie and Rusty) so it's a busy home. I started my career as an engineer and Supply Chain professional in manufacturing before moving to Cruise Lines and then here as Procurement Director. ⭐️What brought you to Bourne? The culture! Initially I was intrigued by the fact that Bourne kept appearing in the Times Best Big Company to work for list year after year. As I started to meet team across the business it soon became obvious that this was a place that valued people above all. ⭐️Why are you passionate about Disability inclusion / Disability Pride? During Covid both my daughters were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). At the time my understanding of Autism was almost nothing and, since then, I've worked hard to educate myself. I've learnt about the unique challenges and strengths this condition brings with it and it's certainly changed our lives. Every week I see opportunities for them to use their strengths to flourish but also unique challenges they have to overcome - I suspect that's true for all fathers and their children, it's just that we also have this "ASD" element in the mix. ⭐️What barriers do you think we face in disability inclusion and in particular from your experience those who are neurodivergent? I think the biggest barrier today is simply broad awareness and understanding which would, inevitably, lead to a more inclusive environment and society. More than 15% of the UK population is estimated to be neurodivergent - that's 10 million people -yet we design our environments, our systems, our schools and workplaces and the way we treat each other according to very neurotypical preferences. That's not a surprise nor is it inherently "wrong" but it does mean we have a huge opportunity to improve the life of 10 million people across the UK simply by helping everyone to understand the rich variety and tapestry of ways in which different people experience the world. ⭐️What do you think everyone can do to play their part in allyship for those with a disability and in particular neurodiversity? Be curious! If you're reading this you're already on the right track and next time there's an opportunity to learn more - whether that's a conversation with someone you meet, a video that pops up on your social media or anything else - grab it with both hands. #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Neurodiversity #Awareness #Allyship #enablingstorytelling 👩👧👧🌈

🎉🌈 Celebrating Disability Pride! 🌈🎉 We're thrilled to share what Disability Pride means to Samantha Davenport, our Cleaning Services Manager at Haven Weymouth Bay. 🏖️ Hi – I’m Samantha Davenport, Cleaning Services Team Manager at Weymouth Bay. I have worked for Haven for 7 years, starting as a Lettings Manager, promoted to Guest & Owners Team Manager and now Cleaning Services Manager. I have 2 children, Hayden, 12, diagnosed with Autism & A.D.D and Lacey, 8 years old. What brought you to Haven? I came to Haven as I loved the feel of the holiday environment. Everyone was welcoming and I felt that I could be myself here. Haven is one big family, and no one is judged and for me that is very important. I especially love my current role, as I have been able to offer work opportunities to many individuals, who may sometimes struggle to gain work in other sectors. Why are you passionate about Disability inclusion / Disability Pride? Having a child with Autism has increased my passion in this area however I have always been a believer in supporting everyone no matter what. For me, it is about making the world we live in, a safe place for our children and peers and all people around us, with less judging and more understanding of the differences/struggles we all face. What barriers do you think we face in disability inclusion and in particular from your experience those who are neurodivergent? Neurodiversity faces challenges as it is not classed as a "disability that is seen". A lot of people believe it to be a "label" or and "excuse" for negative behaviour however it is not something that is chosen by the person affected and it is NOT an easy way to live. On a personal level, my son has had many struggles since his diagnosis, including bullying at school, because he is "different". Being able to see the world from his point of view has been challenging but enlightening for me as a parent. What do you think everyone can do to play their part in allyship for those with a disability and in particular neurodiversity? Everyone can play their part by encouraging people with a disability – especially neurodiversity to "be themselves" and not worry about what others think. As a united group of people, we can give people affected by Neurodiversity our support, love and guidance. Understanding Neurodiversity from the affected person's point of view is vital and educating the entire community can help with this... #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Neurodiversity #enablingstorytelling #SupportAndLove 💪👩👧👦❤️🌍
