In today’s Property Week, Nigel Booen, Director of Design at Boyer comments on the introduction of a pilot UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard – a ‘laudable and an impressive piece of work’, says Nigel, but one which ‘Is not client-friendly and comes across as intimidating’. Nigel goes on to say that the new Standard is a road map, but not a solution and raises a lot of questions. #CommercialProperty #Developer #Housebuilder #NetZero #Retrofit #UkNetZeroCarbonBuildingStandard

Should social media be incorporated into planning consultations? Recent research shows that 63% of British adults believe there should be more public involvement in planning for new homes, while the Government has promised more democratic engagement with how homes and infrastructure are built. There is an absence of younger voices in planning, but how can this be rectified and is social media the answer? Alice Salomonsson, Planner in Boyer’s Colchester office explores the issues. #NIMBYism #NewHomes #Consultation #Housebuilding #Planning #SocialMedia #RTPI

That's a wrap on Urban Design Group National Conference 2024 in our wonderful city! 🎉 It was lovely to be told that "it'll be difficult, if not impossible to beat at future conferences" really made the hard work worth it! Reading so many Linkedin posts from some of the hundreds of built environment professionals attending about our city and how people enjoyed themselves is superb 🌟 I was blown away by the immense positivity from those attending the conference who recognised the vast transformational scale of the works currently underway but also forthcoming in our city centre and why they are so critical for growth and prosperity. Also so pleasing to hear from many people who hadn't been to #Plymouth before, or had a perception of how it was, being so complementary and saying how much they loved our unique city. Plymouth put on its best face for us 🌞 and I lost track how many people said they would want to relocate here! Please do! Despite the woes sometimes.. which can take a toll, it was heartening to hear from so many that our ambition and enthusiasm for change was both refreshing and bold. Certainly the Leader Tudor Evans speech garnered praise for supporting the forward motion and big decisions. The Theatre Royal Plymouth was just perfect, thank you James Greenacre and James Mackenzie-Blackman. The greening of the foyer and stage by Societree CIC and YGS Landscapes Ltd was superb and gave a unique aesthetic. Thank you also to the other sponsors of the event including Morgan Sindall Construction, Clifton Emery, David Lock Associates Ltd and Boyer - you made it possible. Likewise every one of our speakers and presentations were excellent and the discussions around the ongoing challenges we face in our urban environments and how to address them showed a shared concern for getting it right for the long term. I loved meeting you all, old friends and new, and would welcome the Group back to Plymouth in future when we've made great strides towards making our city even better. I'd love to say thank you to everyone personally.. but I'll run out of room, so a huge thanks to Niki Read - Robert Huxford and Paul Reynolds - we all worked hard together to pull this off.
