Councils Powers to Compulsorily Purchase Land for affordable housing are to be intensified under the new government – but at what cost? In a parliamentary debate yesterday, Lib Dem MP Andrew George asked: “The Minister knows that the planning system is built on the ability to make millionaires at the stroke of a pen as a result of passing planning permission, which does not necessarily result in developments that are in the best interests of a local community. Surely there is more that the Government can do to ensure that we tip the planning system towards meeting need, rather than greed?” Darren Jones The Chief Secretary to the Treasury responded: “The issue of so-called hope value was referenced in the Labour party’s manifesto, and the Government will set out further detail in due course.” Boyer’s view on the topic of compulsory purchase for the creation of more affordable housing was published on our website today – read the views of Lawrence Turner in the link below. #AffordableHousing #CompulsoryPurchaseOrders #CPO #Development #Landowners #LocalAuthorities #LURA #Planning #Regeneration #SocialHousing

Boyer is delighted to have secured a resolution to grant planning permission for 38 homes in Binfield, Berkshire on behalf of Bloor Homes Southern. Members of Bracknell Forest Council voted in favour of the application at planning committee following officers’ positive recommendation. Joe Hickling, Principal Planner in Boyer’s Wokingham office who led the planning application said the following: “The scheme will deliver much needed high quality private and affordable homes amongst well integrated green and blue infrastructure, by capitalising on the natural opportunities of the site. We’re very much looking forward to the scheme being delivered. Boyer successfully promoted the site to secure an allocation in the Local Plan. Following the Local Plan’s adoption earlier in the year, it is extra satisfying to see a scheme through from start to finish of the planning process”.
