Breed presents… The Podcast with Rafael Oliveira Rafael Oliveira is the Creative Director for Tracksmith, the New England makers of performance running gear. This is the perfect job for Rafa as it allows him to combine his two great passions – design and running. Though born in Rio de Janeiro, Rafa considers himself Portuguese, and lives in a former car parts warehouse in Porto, which he transformed into the unique and spacious home he lives in today. When he turned 30, Rafa got into running, and soon became much more than a casual jogger, training to the point that he soon got his marathon time down to under two hours, 30 minutes. During this time, he also became a fan of Tracksmith, both its clothing and brand. He got in touch with the company, hit it off with founder Matt Taylor, and the rest is history. He joins Breed London’s Olivia Triggs to talk about design, running and the part played by creativity in his life. https://lnkd.in/ehchV5mc

For our next episode (series two, episode five) of Breed Presents... The Podcast, we’re talking to the photographer and film-maker – Cat Garcia. Cat’s creative life really got underway when she studied Graphic Design at the University of Brighton. On graduating, she moved to London, where she spent a few years as a designer and in-house photographer at a Soho creative agency. Having established herself, she decided to focus entirely on photography and went freelance. Usually, but not always, choosing to work in black and white, and using natural light, Cat uses images to tell stories without pretension. Everything is stripped back, simple and real. Cat also works with moving image, where she’s often accompanied by husband Carlos Garcia, a professional songwriter and musician, who provides evocative soundtracks to her visuals. In all her work, Cat tells intimate, positive stories, focusing in on the little details of life to provide that genuine sense of empathy. Among many others in recent years, Cat has worked with Tate Britain, Soho House, Leica, Hole & Corner, MR PORTER, and the V&A, and made films for Hauser & Wirth, Frescobol Carioca, and Sunspel. Special thanks to Make Hauser & Wirth and Sunspel for giving us permission to use the music Carlos created for them. You can listen in from wherever you like to get your podcasts. https://lnkd.in/erKAk7ev

Annie Atkins – On the DesignThinkers Podcast Thinking out loud Annie Atkins is the guest on the third episode of the DesignThinkers Podcast, which has just gone live. Annie Atkins talks about finding her specialist niche in graphic design and how much she enjoys doing the research to get her pieces exactly right, with all the imperfections that make something feel more real. The podcast comes from the Association of Registered Graphic Designers and celebrates 25 years of the DesignThinkers Conference, Canada’s largest regular graphic design gathering. That gives them a quarter century of past speakers to reconnect with via the podcast, and find out about the ideas and influences that helped shape their careers. The next DesignThinkers Conference takes place in Toronto on 7 and 8 November. In the meantime, you can listen to Annie’s appearance on the podcast on Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD)’s site or wherever you prefer to find your podcasts.

Danny Sangra – New animated short film Fruit loop Danny’s just released a new animated short film called ‘Donny’s Orange’, though any association with a current orange court occupant is entirely coincidental. It’s actually about an orange coming to terms with the world of marketing, the importance of words and how even the tiniest tweak can alter their meaning, and ethical dilemmas. Still, who doesn’t want to wear a crown, right? It's just become a Vimeo Staff Pick. As the title suggests, these are short films handpicked by Vimeo staff as the best on the internet. Elisa Alcalde – FT cover Elisa’s work is on the cover on last weekend’s FT Magazine, illustrating the lead article inside. The article, ‘They are among us’: Russia’s terrifyingly effective poisoning operation’ by Courtney Weaver, looks at the evidence for the increasing use of poisons against those the Russian state deems to be its enemies.
