Happy Green Careers Week everyone! 🎊 This year we at Bright Green Future hosted a 'Youth for Net Zero' online forum, bringing together BGF Alumni from around the UK and energy sector professionals. We had brilliant conversations around the opportunities that the transition to a net-zero energy system will create, as well as the barriers that young people face in entering into a fast evolving workforce. We'd like to offer a very sincere thank you to all of the speakers. We heard from: BGF Alumni Lorna Macrae about applying her studies in Geophysics to the world of renewables; Anne-Marie Spalding from Octopus about making the career shift from traditional consultancy into the clean energy sector; Yumann Siddiq from Smart DCC about using energy policy to accelerate the transition to Net Zero; Rachel Young from the MCS Foundation about the gaps in green skills and how we can fill them; Ben Turner from UKPN about using his engineering education to drive innovation; Simon Pyne from Greener Energy Futures on giving young people real world experience in the rapidly expanding 'green economy' and Janine Michael, Chief Executive for Centre for Sustainable Energy, about her vision for a sustainable future. #greencareersweek #brightgreenfuture #youthvoices #youthleadership

On the evening, we’re going to bring together industry experts and BGF alumni to explore how different knowledge and skills, from AI to digital technology to HR and more, can help power the future of green energy. This event is a fantastic opportunity to network, learn and discover your potential career paths. 🌳 A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Youth Advisory Board; Demi, Gemma, Heather, Jevin, Lisa, Sheena and Toni, for their passion, dedication, and leadership this past year! ⚡ While we were sad to see this group come to a close last month, all good things must come to an end and by sharing your ideas and perspectives you have all made a meaningful impact on the legacy and direction of the Bright Green Future programme. 💚 As we say goodbye to this amazing group, we’re excited for the new chapters ahead and grateful for everything you’ve contributed. “Bright Green Future helped me find my voice and get involved in a meaningful way” Gemma took part in Bright Green Future back in 2021. Her favourite things about the programme were having conversations with like-minded young people and learning more about the environment, as well as important life skills such as leadership and communication. She said: “Bright Green Future, for me, was a way to turn my thoughts and passion about the environment into something tangible and real.” Since graduating, Gemma has done some incredible things! She has… 📢 Spoken at the Labour Party Conference with National Youth Agency 🌳 Attended a conference with the Environment Agency 💡 Joined the Our Bright Future Youth Forum ♻ Worked for an environmental charity supporting schools with climate action plans 🎓 Started studying at university Gemma said, “I would never have had the confidence to do this without Bright Green Future. It has been the springboard for so many wonderful experiences in the environmental sector.” We’re so proud of everything that Gemma has achieved since graduating as a BGF Alumnus three years ago. We can’t wait to see what she does next! We love hearing from our Alumni about what they have been up to since graduating. Our Alumni survey is still open here: https://lnkd.in/et2gEaHE. 👀 Look out for Alumni events coming up!
