Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival
Performing Arts
We are an arts charity made up of a historic events venue, a music education service and the biggest cross-arts festival
About us
Our mission is to inspire and enable artists to be their most creative and to champion the power of the arts to enrich and change lives. We believe in the transformative power of the arts and that they can provide a catalyst for social change for good. As custodians of the Grade I and Grade II listed Brighton Dome, which is part of the iconic Royal Pavilion Estate, we present a rich and varied programme spanning music, theatre, dance, comedy, literature, spoken word, visual arts, film, digital, community and participatory events. Our magnificent building, Brighton Dome, has been standing for over 200 years - a beacon for the community. Starting as a riding stable for Prince Regent and transforming into many guises thereafter from a place of protest and solidarity for Suffragettes to temporary hospital in WWI, a refuge for wartime dance in World War II and even a roller-skating venue. Brighton Dome is an extraordinary space in which to bring the arts alive. We produce Brighton Festival, the largest curated annual arts festival in England. Renowned for its pioneering spirit and experimental reputation since 1967, Brighton Festival has become one of the city’s most enduring symbols of inventiveness. Since 2009 we have welcomed a major cultural figure to guest curate and enhance the prestige of the artistic programme. Anish Kapoor, Brian Eno, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael Rosen, Hofesh Shechter, Ali Smith, Laurie Anderson, Kate Tempest, David Shrigley and Lemn Sissay have contributed significantly to our innovative programming as Guest Director. A hub for artists across the region, we commission and support both emerging and established artists and companies, enabling them to develop, take risks and deliver work of the highest quality. The third part of our arts portfolio is a strong music education service that teaches over 4k children and young people music across East and West Sussex. brightfestival.org brightondome.org

Huge congratulations to Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios), who won three awards at the BD Architect of the Year Awards last night. 🌠 The Brighton Dome Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre refurbishment was named alongside other incredible projects they undertook to secure their Public Building Architect of the Year, Retail and Leisure Architect of the Year and Gold Award wins. FCBStudios wins top prize at BD Architect of the Year Awards. We are so pleased to announce that FCBStudios picked up three awards last night at the BD Architect of the Year Awards including the coveted Gold Award for the 'best of the best'. We also won Public Building Architect of the Year and Retail & Leisure Architect of the Year awards. Building Design. said: “The judges were impressed by the practices diverse range of projects, praising it for high quality, inventive and beautiful design that also enhanced the wider context. The projects included the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre, a sensitive restoration and skilful reinvention of the former, 200 year old stable with the UK’s longest single span timber roof as a performing arts venue, while the transformation of a former gasworks site into Eden Project Dundee was described as an inspiring model of environmental regeneration. Referring to the Heart of the City II, a mixed use scheme in Sheffield, the judges said introducing uses of this scale into historic city centres was really difficult, and that FCBStudios had demonstrated considerable skill in doing this successfully. The Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoir Centre has revitalised a historic site into a dynamic recreational destination that respects the natural environment and increased visitor numbers. The Bristol Zoo Project aims to elevate animal welfare and the visitor experience through its modernised facilities and naturalistic habitats and the zoo’s commitment to conservation education and community engagement is commendable.” Congratulations to all the winners, and everyone in the practice, our clients and collaborators who have helped contribute to this win (too many to mention) !! What a night! A huge thank you to everyone who made our 2024 Cornucopia Fundraiser such a massive success. With our dazzling host Kit Green, performances from The Sussex String Trio, Create Music’s Youth Big Band, Spencer Jones, Le Gateau Chocolat, and art by Modern Toss, a three-course feast by Secret Restaurant and drinks from Burgundy Wines and Brighton Gin, it was an evening to remember. It was great to see Lucy Davies, who will join us as our new Chief Executive in the new year. 🥂 We’re thrilled to share that this year’s Cornucopia raised over £50,000 for Brighton Dome, Brighton Festival and Create Music. As a registered charity, these vital funds will help our work with artists, young people and community groups, and teach music to thousands of children and young people across Sussex with Create Music. This wouldn’t have been possible without the overwhelming support we received from artists, sponsors, local businesses, partners, our match-funding providers, and of course our wonderful guests! Thank you for your support. 💞 📸 Peter Gallizzi #Arts #Culture #Brighton #NonProfit
