“There is no secret of the heart which our actions do not disclose” Moliere
Have been heartened by the positive response and engagement to the concept of 'Designing airports fit for the future'.
The presentation at British Aviation Group, I hope causes a pivot in thought, to start the incremental changes and innovation, that anticipates diversity and seeks to design so all can travel and work with dignity and joy.
Thank you Dan and Tim for recognising how BAG has a place to amplify this conversation.
One thing the aviation (and construction/enginering/technology industries that create our industry) needs is more humans to undertake roles and build careers.
As part of Heathrow Inclusive Learners Partnership (HILP), Paul and I continue to see the passion within our supply chain to create inclusive pathways into aviation.
Working with HRUC (Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges), Mott MacDonald, Ethos Farm, Capgemini, Mace, Fujitsu, Volker Fitzpatrick, Ferrovial Construction have all provided meaningful engagements and enrichments with the learners with additional requirements and all remarked at the benefits their teams have voiced.
We still recognise that the barriers those individuals may face in a career in aviation are in our gift to remove through considering their needs at the outset of our designs.
So here’s the win win.
Engaging with the learners provides the insights we need to recognise where we can and must do better, and also provides us the talent to fill our businesses with the next ‘aviation generation’.
This brings me full circle to the reason I consciously choose to 'disclose' my ADHD and Dyslexia.
How can I ask others to be vulnerable and share their needs so we can do better, if I myself don’t ‘real model’ the same.
Next week, I’ll be starting my journey with Women Emerging on the virtual expedition for women with disability or chronic condition. link here -https://lnkd.in/e_2kdt7y
Women Emerging is a non-profit movement that helps women redefine their approach to leading, and this expedition comes at a time when I’ve been exploring what it truly means to lead. I’m so excited to accelerate that learning alongside incredible women from across the globe.
Leading can sometimes feel isolating when those around you can’t fully understand your journey. That’s why this expedition is so meaningful - it’s a place where we can connect, feel truly seen, and grow stronger together.
I feel so grateful for this opportunity to learn from and with extraordinary women, all redefining leading with boldness and purpose.
Sometimes we have to choose which hard we want to pursue, the hardness of living in a world not designed for us, or the hardness of taking each step into a world that is equitably designed for all.
