Go behind the scenes as we welcome the latest crop of talented young riders to the Great Britain Cycling Team Academy - celebrating 20 years this year! Big thank you to all the staff and partners who helped us put on a busy few days!
About us
British Cycling is the national governing body for cycling as recognised by the UCI – the international federation for the sport. Based in Manchester at the National Cycling Centre, British Cycling works across all levels and six disciplines of the sport (BMX, Mountain Bike, Cyclo-Cross, Road, Track and Cycle Speedway), from providing the support and encouragement people need to get riding their bikes for the first time, to being home to the hugely successful Great Britain Cycling Team. Continued success at the highest level is inspiring a boom in participation across the nation. There have never been more opportunities to ride a bike, be it for fun or sport, and British Cycling is at the heart of this growth. British Cycling also works hard to represent cyclists’ interests at all levels, including campaigning on important issues including road safety. As a membership organisation, British Cycling provides a suite of benefits and support to its members who currently number 130,000. All membership revenue is invested back into cycling.

Black History is more than a month📣 It’s an ongoing commitment, a call to action to learn and do more. We are proud to announce our partnership with eight leading sports organisations for a new research project to better understand the unique needs and experiences of Black British girls in sport. Our previous research has shown a startling disconnect - despite having the most positive attitudes enthusiasm and confidence toward sport among all ethnic groups, only 35% of Black British girls meet recommended activity levels. This disparity speaks to a gap in opportunity, resources, and support that we are determined to address. The findings from this study will be used to drive meaningful change across the sports sector to tackle the inequalities in sport and physical activity for Black British teenage girls. This work is being supported by British Cycling, British Rowing, England and Great Britain Hockey, England Netball, England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Football Association, the Lawn Tennis Association and England Rugby Read more about the research here: https://lnkd.in/e-Thzwr4 #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM2024 #BHM

“My goal is to make the UK the top destination for women’s sport investment”. Wise and important words yesterday from Poppy Gustafsson, Minister for Investment 👏 We’re throwing our weight behind the Government’s pledge to make the UK the top destination for women’s sport investment. Delivering the Tour of Britain Women this June shows the ability of world-class cycling events to unite riders, fans, and communities whilst driving positive change and real social impact. Investment and sponsorship is crucial to making that happen and we look forward to working with colleagues from the other sports represented to prioritise development, commercial growth and financial sustainability. Yesterday marked a historic moment for UK sport, as over 300 Olympic and Paralympic coaches gathered at Buckingham Palace to celebrate and recognise their invaluable contributions. In collaboration with UK Sport, and hosted by UK Coaching’s Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, this was the first time coaches in the UK have been honoured on such a grand scale. Coaches often work tirelessly behind the scenes, playing a crucial role in supporting and enabling athletes to achieve their best. This event provided a well-earned moment for them to take centre stage. Read more about the event here: https://bit.ly/3BSzrbR
