About us

The British Property Federation is one of the country’s most influential and high profile lobby groups. Representing the property industry – including commercial and residential property owners, investors, developers and their advisers – the BPF works to influence legislation and raise the industry’s profile across all areas of business, politics and the media. We aim to create the conditions in which the property industry can grow and thrive, for the benefit of our members and of the economy as a whole. We do this by engaging with the government and other bodies whose decisions affect the property industry, on things like finance, tax, localism, planning, sustainability and housing policy, to make sure that the industry’s needs and views are taken into account.

  • 📰 Great to see Property Week covering our 'closing the data deficit' report yesterday.   According to BPF members, the lack of access to energy data is one of the biggest challenges to decarbonising our homes and buildings. Our research explores these challenges in more detail and calls for mandatory data sharing between owners and occupiers.   🙌 Thanks to Farrer & Co for contributing to the article and supporting our research.   ➡️ You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/emaGmuvb ➕ You can also find Property Week's article here: https://lnkd.in/gHpjxhWi

  • 📣As part of our Open Call 2024, our BPF Privacy and Data Protection Group is looking for new members! If you're passionate about privacy and data protection, apply to join the group here: https://lnkd.in/edG-Yqwp   💡In the spotlight this week, we spoke with Assistant Director Rachel Kelly to learn more about the group’s work. Here's what she had to say:   ❓What’s the remit of the BPF Privacy and Data Group Group?   🗣️The group focuses on how data protection laws apply to the property sector, making sure members stay informed about the latest developments in this fast-paced regulatory landscape and to help the industry understand the practical impacts.   We also engage with the Government and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on issues that matter most to the sector. It also serves as a valuable network for connecting with peers.   ❓Who sits on the group and who are its key stakeholders?   🗣️The group includes members responsible for data protection in their organisations, including data protection officers, in-house lawyers and compliance managers. It's also supported by external lawyers who are experts in this field. Our main stakeholder within Government is the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).   The group is currently up for Open Call – so please do apply if you’re interested in getting involved!   ❓What issues are top of the agenda for the group at the moment?   🗣️The Government has recently published the new Data (Use and Access) Bill – so we’ll look to engage with this as it goes through Parliament. More generally, we focus on issues which are most relevant to members – from the use of facial recognition technology and collection of energy consumption data, to privacy issues arising from the use of AI.   We’re hosting a webinar on Wednesday 3 December for anyone interested in getting a sense of the current hot topics - you can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/eFkmjuev   ❓Who should apply to join the group?   🗣️Anyone with an interest in this area or responsibility for data protection within their organisation! We're seeking to grow the group with enthusiastic members who are keen to contribute to strategic discussions and shape policy in this area.

  • 📣 Press Release: Real estate bodies in talks to create new industry powerhouse The Boards of the AREF (The Association of Real Estate Funds), the British Property Federation (BPF) and the Investment Property Forum (IPF) have announced today that they are in discussions with a view to coming together to create a new representative body for the UK real estate sector. Their shared vision is to build on the individual strengths of each organisation to create a new body that will be a single powerful convenor and voice for the sector. This move reflects the changing nature of the sector and the desire of each organisation to serve the industry effectively and ensure that it is well understood by and represented to its stakeholders. A Shadow Board comprising representatives from each organisation has been established to oversee the next stage of the discussions. Each organisation will be consulting with its members over the next few months, and it is anticipated that the Shadow Board will bring forward a formal proposal for members to consider during 2025.    🗣️BPF President Jessica Hardman said:   “Our sector is changing. Whether that’s the different way in which many of us run our businesses, or the impact of digitalisation, or the emergence and growth of new asset classes such as single family housing, co-living, life sciences and data centres. In response to this change the BPF is already working hard to deliver a programme of continuous development and improvement, but the BPF Board I chair believes we can go even further working with the Boards of AREF and the IPF to deliver a new larger body building on the strengths of each individual organisation. I look forward to sharing further details with members over the next few months and hearing their views.” ➡️ You can read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/ez4ZhH3B
