This week, BVA President Elizabeth Mullineaux and Head of Policy Patricia Canedo were delighted to meet with Danny Chambers at the House of Commons to discuss pressing issues for the veterinary profession, including reform of the Veterinary Surgeons Act. We're thrilled to have a new vet MP championing the profession and #AnimalWelfare in Parliament.

A strong voice for vets
About us
British Veterinary Association is the national representative body for the veterinary profession. We guide members throughout their careers, from student to retirement, with the support and knowledge they need to achieve their goals, and speak up for them on the issues that matter most. We are the only UK veterinary association that looks after the interests of all vets in all disciplines. Our members are at the heart of everything we do and, with the power of more than 19,000 members behind us, we’re able to provide a voice to represent and services to support.

In our next #SocialTakeover with the Animal Aspirations team, we’re introducing Gabby Bell, final-year Royal Veterinary College vet student and #AnimalAspirations Workshop Ambassador 👇 “One of my favourite parts of this career is building relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether with peers, staff during placements, or community members as an ambassador, I've seen how diverse our industry can be. It’s a field where I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from all different cultures and see how our shared passion for animal care brings us together. “Helping to establish the African and Caribbean Society at the RVC is one of my proudest achievements. Creating this space is essential for discussing the experiences of people of colour in the veterinary industry. It provides a safe and supportive environment where we can share our challenges, celebrate our successes, and connect with others who have similar backgrounds. “Initiatives like Animal Aspirations are vital as they allow young people to envision themselves in veterinary medicine. Growing up, I did not see many people of colour in the field, and seeing others with similar backgrounds can be incredibly motivating. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing these students grow through our workshops. It’s inspiring to see them progress and realise their potential. We are dedicated to providing the resources and guidance they need to successfully enter the profession. “My advice to young people is to explore animal-related summer schools, like the Sutton Trust and Pre-Vet Summer School. These opportunities offer a great introduction to what it's like to work in an animal-related career. And of course, stay connected with Animal Aspirations on social media!” 🐾 #BlackHistoryMonth #TeamVet #WeAreBVA

"The James Herriot spirit remains alive - with a key difference." Great to see this balanced and nuanced article by Louise Eccles in yesterday's The Times, looking beyond the headlines into the complexities around the cost and value of veterinary care. The article explores vets' true motivations for joining the profession, corporatisation, concerns around client expectations and overtreatment, and more. BVA's #VetVoice survey stats showing a concerning increase client abuse and aggression towards vets are also mentioned. Read now (subscription required) 👉 https://ow.ly/plCv50TFE9m
