I really didn’t know I’d have such an emotional reaction to seeing an article about Brydon Books published in The Bookseller. It’s really beyond my wildest dreams (even though, of course, we wrote and sent them the press release).
The Bookseller is the biggest source of publishing industry news in the UK. I read the newsletter digest every morning and click through to articles when I have the time.
Seeing our announcement there, I immediately burst into tears. Big tears. Ugly tears. Gorgeous tears. Tears of relief. Tears of happiness. Tears of “omg what have we done.” Tears of “heck yea, look what we’ve done.” 😭 😂 😹 😅 😁

📣 Today is the official publication day of Brydon Books first two titles, Draw This Book: Pirate Adventure & Draw This Book: Animal Party. It’s also officially “Drawing Day” (May 16).
😅 When Edward Brydon and I set out to start up a publishing company to publish interactive books for kids, we knew it would be hard work. But I don’t think we truly knew. (Does anyone really when they start a biz? Please comment below!)

We are Brydon Books, a new, independent children’s publisher that inspires kids to play, explore and create through a publishing programme of interactive and collaborative picture books, activity books, novelty and nonfiction for ages 3 - 12. Our mission is to provide children and their families with a fun and viable alternative to screen time with beautiful, exciting, high-quality books that foster creativity and encourage children to explore their world.
Founded by children’s book industry veteran Alli Brydon and Edward Brydon in 2023, Brydon Books’ first list published in 2024 with #DrawThisBook, an exciting, new series for children aged 4 to 7 that invites them to co-create a one-of-a-kind, keepsake picture book by drawing their own pictures throughout. Starting with two titles, Pirate Adventure and Animal Party, these hybrid story/activity books have all the words, but most of the pictures are missing! Using pencils, crayons, markers – along with helpful directions inside – kids can craft their drawings, put themselves into the book and bring an adventure to life. Cited by Twinkl Educational Publishing as “revolutionising reading”, these hybrid books put children in control of their own stories.
Thanks to a successful, filly-funded Kickstarter in March 2024, our list will continue with more in the Draw This Book series, as well as picture books and nonfiction that utilise interactive elements and require a young reader’s participation.
