Our work in the ASEAN region as part of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office's Standards Partnership programme is focussed on strengthening cross-border e-commerce and digital trust, to boost the digital economy and support the growth of a unified digital market. Recent activity has been centered around providing recommendations to bridge the gaps in, and streamline e-commerce standards adoption across the region, as identified in our research. A virtual capacity-building workshop was held on 24 February, bringing together policymakers, standards developers and private and public sector representatives from across 10 ASEAN member states, to raise awareness and understanding of the critical role e-commerce standards play in digital economy integration. Speakers from the Institute of Standards of Cambodia, the Viet Nam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency (MOIT), the Infocom Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore, and BSI experts shared insights on digital trade standards and the key areas that most effectively promote trade and foster closer cooperation among countries within the ASEAN region. Following this activity, we’re looking forward to seeing more countries across ASEAN integrate international standards into their national frameworks and enhance standards harmonization to boost trade.
