The leadership style of all small business owners will fall into one of three types; artist, entrepreneur or operator. It is important to know which kind of leader you are, because it will help you figure out who you need around you to help manage and grow your business. Can you recognise yourself in any of the following? THE ARTIST Obsessed with developing new products, the artist is a visionary. Essential to the ongoing development of the business due to the ability to create new products, they are not good at turning up on time or dealing with day to day matters in an efficient way, because they are too busy looking to the future and creating the next big thing. THE ENTREPRENUER Always sniffing out the next sales opportunities, the entrepreneur is driven by the need to constantly grow the business. Whether scaling up or entering a new market, their thirst for more sales is never quenched. Essential to the business due to their focus on revenue, they are not good at the routines, processes and habits needed to grow the business, because it just isn’t as exciting as the thrill of chasing the next sale. THE OPERATOR Loves to organise chaos. They want the business to run like a well oiled machine with systems and processes that can be duplicated. This means everyone knows what they are supposed to be doing, which brings a sense of calm control the operator loves. Essential to the business, the operator ensures everything gets done in an efficient and effective way. Essential to enable to business to grow, the operator will often be frustrated by the spontaneity and lack of focus exhibited by the artist and entrepreneur. So which one are you? All three styles are important and essential for a business to thrive. You may feel you have elements of all three, but you will find one style is more dominant than the others. The above concepts are from the books ‘How To Grow Your Small Business’ by American Author Donald Miller. Emily Coy is a Certified Business Made Simple Coach, licensed to share these awesome concepts.

Clients of often ask me “which is the best bookkeeping software to use?” Without hesitation I will always say Xero. Have I carried out an in depth study of the top 10 cloud accounting platforms to come to this conclusion?….sorry no…I just love Xero. Before becoming a business coach I was accountant for 15 years, and I never really stopped because my coaching clients will often ask me to whip up a quick cash flow or do a bit of number crunching analysis. I enjoy doing these adhoc projects because it gives business owners the information they need to make decisions. But why Xero? Well I guess I just fell in love with Xero after a long and boring relationship with Sage. There’s nothing wrong with Sage. Sage was steady and reliable for years. But when Xero came along with it’s fancy cloud accounting and beautiful interface, I was just blown away, it seemed futuristic…because it was futuristic. Sage, Quickbooks and all other bookkeeping software had to work hard to catch up with Xero. Xero is great for accountants and it’s great for business owners and that’s a tough balance to achieve, but it’s one of many reasons I think it’s the best. In the fast moving world of software its hard to imagine any one company staying on top for decades, but I sure hope that’s the case for Xero.

Here’s the fourth and final instalment in the series ‘The 3rd (Hidden) Way To Boost Your Profitability’. The previous post talked about creating new products that solve your customers problems. However, as your business grows and you start introducing more products to your lineup, things can get a little... well, chaotic. It's like juggling balls while riding a unicycle – exciting but nerve-wracking, right? What if I told you there's a secret weapon that can make this whole process a whole lot easier? It’s called a Product Brief. No, it's not just another boring document. It's a powerful tool that helps you and your team do some serious groundwork before launching a product or service. It's like having a crystal ball that answers crucial questions 1. Will the product interfere with existing revenue streams? 2. Will the product confuse customers? 3. Will the product be profitable and sustainable? 4. Will the product bloat overhead? Answer these questions, and voila! You've got yourself a Product Brief that brings order to chaos, and ensures you're fully aware of potential risks before the big launch. Doubt, my friend, is not a bad thing here. In fact, it's necessary if you want to take your operation from amateur to professional. So, are you ready to wave that magic wand and bring some order to the chaos? Schedule a free discovery call to supercharge your profitability today! https://bit.ly/3ZNOxZT Because let's be real, who doesn't love a thriving, profitable business?
