Our editor was at FinTech North yesterday - read all about it here https://lnkd.in/eSnjuVC7
From a 'Duolingo for student finance' to saving lives on the road, fintech is about much more than just your banking app. I went to the famous Royal Liver Suite at The Royal Liver Building yesterday for FinTech North, a showcase of technological innovation in the financial services sector in the North and across the UK. Liverpool is well known as the UK’s top location outside London for wealth management, hosting big names including Rathbones Group Plc, Investec and Pershing. Its maritime heritage means it’s also long been a centre for insurance. And as Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram Liverpool City Region Combined Authority said in his introductory speech at Fintech North, the city region “is already a formidable force in the fintech arena.” We heard from entrepreneurs including Wirral’s Robyn Roberts, who is creating AI-driven road safety solutions, and from insurance tech specialist Andrew Porter from iCede Solutions Limited. Meanwhile, Iain Craig - Chartered FCSI discussed exactly what AI would mean for finance, and the team from Liverpool's Scholar Saver explained their work. Thanks to Oliver Chesher for the invitation, and to Charlie Swinbourne for the photos. And if you want to read more about the surprisingly fascinating world of fintech , read my report here: https://lnkd.in/eFANzWkf

Applied Nutirition is one of Merseyside's biggest business success stories of recent years - now it is looking for more growth after securing four key deals. The Knowsley group has agreed a joint business plan with Holland & Barrett to expand its ranges at those shops - including making its Coleen Rooney range available in 500 stores. Meanwhile it has signed a deal with three US retail groups, including the largest regional grocery chain in the Midwest. Full story here: https://lnkd.in/e-5a-Y_K

Our editor is looking for advice on coffee shop working - can you help?
Liverpool laptop users – what’s your favourite coffee shop to work in? So I was planning to work in the Liverpool Echo office this morning – but it was so busy that in the end I had to run away and take my laptop out for a coffee. Thankfully there are plenty of great coffee shops to choose from in Liverpool city centre. This time I went for Wylde in Exchange Flags – comfy desks and a great batch brew. Some of my other favourites are Bean and Bold Street Coffee in St Paul’s Square. And if you’re after a bit of gratuitous grandeur, there’s always Relish in the Royal Liver Building. That all got me thinking - where do you, LinkedIn friends and BusinessLive readers, like to go when you need to do some remote working? Where’s got the perfect combination of strong coffee and stable wifi? Let me know in the comments so I can pull together a coffee guide for the curious and perplexed… Look forward to reading your suggestions!

Tech and innovation-focused developer Bruntwood Sci-Tech says it’s positive about its portfolio and remains committed to long-term investments across the UK despite seeing losses widen. The group – a joint venture between Bruntwood, Legal & General and Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) – has released details of its accounts for the year ending September 30, 2024. They show that despite “challenging market conditions” its portfolio is now worth £1.5bn in gross assets, up from £864m in 2023. That helped Bruntwood Sci-Tech post an operating profit of £30 million (2023: £9m) with a 10% like-for-like rental uplift in lettings
