Last week, Monsieur Mohamed Diop, the Secretary-General of Dakar, and members of the City Council Dakar, took a significant step forward in the fight against climate change 🌱 by highlighting the Decarbonising Public Buildings project, supported by the C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF). The Secretary-General emphasized the vital role this project plays in reducing GHG emissions in the energy sector and underscored the urgent need to mobilize financing for urban climate initiatives. The results of project preparation were shared with all municipalities in Dakar to explore financing options for renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions across 23 public buildings. Additionally, discussions were held to expand this transformation to over 300 more public buildings throughout the city. The C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) is proud to support Dakar on this journey, creating #GreenJobs and contributing to energy security, equitable access to public services, and economic growth. Moreover, during the World Metropolitan Day hosted by Dakar and Metropolis on 14th October, the global network of major cities, there was considerable interest in building upon CFF’s achievements to further advance this project. Together, we are driving #ClimateAction and transforming Dakar into a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable city. We're excited to share an insightful new article by C40 Cities, highlighting "How cities can attract private finance for climate action"! 🌱💼 👉 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gxfCMitU 🎯At CFF, our mission is clear: help cities prepare and implement urban infrastructure projects that make a large-scale impact on residents' lives. Because securing finance can be the toughest step for projects, we support cities reach financial-readiness and design the right finance solutions. 💪 🚴♀️For example, for Bogotá CFF support was instrumental in developing their requirements for a bikesharing system, analyzing different funding options, developing the innovative “Scheme for the economic use of public space”, and structuring the PPP-arrangement with a private operator. The system, which integrated many gender equality and disability inclusion measures, launched in September 2022 and now covers 27 square kilometers with 3,000 bikes! A true win for sustainable urban mobility. 🌍 🔥 So much more is possible when cities can mobilize finance from city budgets, national governments, development banks, and the private sector! Let's discuss — How are you leveraging finance for sustainable projects in your city? 💬💡 The CFF is supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Agence Française de Développement, and USAID 📸 Credits: Secretaría Distrital de Movilidad de Bogotá

The first of its kind Inclusive Climate Action Finance Academy (FICAA) in Medellín, Colombia, brought together city officials from across Latin America to explore the intersection between finance and equity and inclusion (E&I). From September 17-19, 2024, C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF), the Alcaldía de Medellín de Medellín and Agencia de Cooperación e Inversión de Medellín y el Área Metropolitana hosted the event, which focused on how cities can prepare infrastructure projects that are not only sustainable but also benefit the most vulnerable communities. Whether it's designing equitable transportation systems or building climate-resilient energy systems, city leaders leave FICAA with the tools and knowledge they need to turn their plans into action. 📍 Welcoming cities from Latin America and representatives from 4 development finance institutions (IFC, BID, CAF, and Agence Française de Développement), the academy was a great hub for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and learning about the equity requirements of financial institutions. The FICAA allowed them to: ✅ Present experiences and apply E&I into project preparation to leave no communities behind ✅ Identify innovative financing solutions for ambitious projects ✅ Learn how to independently access climate finance ✅ Study real-world cases and do hands-on exercises on climate-resilient infrastructure. During the FICAA there was also a handover of CFF's technical assistance for the Parques del Río Norte project to mayor Federico Gutiérrez, demonstrating the city’s strong commitment to continuing the project. #InclusiveClimateAction #SustainableCities #CFF #UrbanResilience #EquityInAction #ClimateFinance #FICAA #SustainableInfrastructure #Medellín #EquityAndInclusion #ResilientCities #Cities4Climate #UnidosEnAccion #C40 C40 Cities IFC - International Finance Corporation Inter-American Development Bank CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe- The CFF is supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Agence Française de Développement, and USAID.
