At 72 years old, Gisele Pelicot bravely shared her harrowing story of being sedated and raped by her former husband, Dominique Pelicot. For nearly a decade, he secretly drugged her by crushing sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medications into her food and drink. Even more disturbingly, he allegedly recruited men online to further assault her. Despite the unimaginable trauma, Gisele’s strength shines through as she now dedicates her voice to empowering other survivors of sexual violence. "I wanted all victims of rape to say, 'If Gisele can do it, we can do it,'" she said, emphasising that shame should never rest on the victims, but on the perpetrators. She also declared that "Because when we are raped, we have shame, but it's not for us to be ashamed, but for those men.” Her courage serves as a beacon of hope for others. We would like to say a huge Thank You to Southwalesmason for their generous £55,000 grant! This grant will help Calan DVS continue to deliver Calan’s Listen and Hear Me Programme for children and young people impacted by domestic abuse. Listen and Hear Me was developed to work alongside the Inspiring Families Programme, which was created by Rockpool Life. The programme empowers non-abusive parents to rebuild trust and understanding, it also includes the voice of the child which is crucial to addressing the trauma of abuse they have experienced and understanding the dynamics within the family. Check out this video which explains why the South Wales Freemasons felt it was so important to support our work in this way, you will also hear from Gareth Branch, Project Manager and Michelle Whelan, CEO: https://lnkd.in/eDGFYWEy
