We are Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers who provide comprehensive services to the construction industry.

About us

Cambria are driven by providing unparalleled service and delivering results on time. Our reputation is the foundation for everything we do and everything we do affects it. It is therefore fundamental that at the very beginning of our appointment we fully understand our Client aspirations and requirements for their proposed project. We are a regional multi-disciplinary engineering practice whom are working hard to deliver the message that not all Engineers are number crunching machines offering the same service – WE DON’T! We listen to feedback and make it personal: A Director will run your project from start to finish – consistency is key to our clients, you won’t get passed around a multi-disciplinary team. We are completely client orientated and only send the right people to meetings to avoid time wasting. Where appropriate, we will bring to your attention any commercial sales or development opportunities that we hear of. The decisions we make, particularly in the early stages when planning engineering strategies are critical to the planning process, project budget, programme, site environment, project risk profile and overall deliverability. Our Directors and Engineers are very sensitive to commercial client pressures and will work towards alleviating those unique and sometimes bespoke pressures by prioritising specific aspects and regularly feeding back information and communicating with our clients to provide surety and comfort throughout the project. We will always communicate openly to ensure we understand those priorities as they might not always be obvious. We understand that one approach does not fit all, and it is imperative that we exercise our construction industry acumen to best effect. With Cambria on board you can be assured of focussed engineering, working thoroughly through all aspects of the workscope with the correct emphasis on your needs.

CAMBRIA CONSULTING CIVILS DIRECTOR – HUGE OPPORTUNITY I would normally leave the recruitment search to our lovely HR peeps or that specific department, but this time it’s a special business opportunity for not only a top job but also potential future ownership. We have some fantastic projects beginning in Q1 of 2025, and whilst our Structural team have three directors (plus myself), it’d be our preference to replicate and have a third Civils Director to support our fantastic Laura Mitchell and Ben Whyman. The Directors who form our senior management team are the best, and they run projects from £10m to over £100m. We are a young, agile and energetic team who love our work, from the initial concept stages, all the way through to delivery. Our Directors are all hands on, we run our projects and do much of the design and detail, of course, you’ll have a team to lead who’ll assist you and make you look good, and you’ll assist them with training and sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience. We are based in Wales and target Welsh projects, it makes for a better work/life balance and it’s much more efficient to be working locally….we all take pride in seeing our projects when we’re out and about. You might be an experienced professional looking for a change, leaving an international consultancy to get involved locally. You might be an Associate who has ran out of opportunities where you are, maybe you feel over-looked? If you are keen for a fresh start in 2025, a new challenge and running your own team of Engineers and Technicians then we could be for you! If you are inexperienced at Director level, that doesn’t matter, you could not have better support than Laura and Ben. This is a position for now and the future and it is about the right individual rather than pure qualifications, a person who shares our passion for an exciting and rewarding career, where work doesn’t actually feel like work. We operate all major software, mostly delivered through ACC and our workload is large and varied, approximately one third schools, one third health and one third the rest. Cambria is a people first business, and as such the personal packages are fantastic, usual insurances and benefits, including full BUPA healthcare for you and your family. Additional quirky benefits like the use of a holiday retreat, birthdays off, free lunch Fridays, bi-monthly socials, annual family BBQ, Diamond Suite Cardiff City tickets and WRU hospitality tickets! Our staff work hard for us and we work hard for our staff. We’re based in Penarth Marina, adjacent to the water with a stunning refurbished office, local amenities, parking, restaurants and the Barrage are all on our doorstep. Our Director team are all geared towards a future owning Cambria, and we would envisage the successful person would be a part of this group. If you would like to have a completely confidential chat, please contact me here through LinkedIn DMs or my details are on our website.

The results are in, and we are proud to announce Cambria has once again been awarded accreditation through Investors in People. The anonymous online survey and interviews culminated in a feedback report we are immensely proud of. Not only were our scores above the IIP and industry average, we also received positive feedback on a wide range of things, from the new office facilities and social events, to our hybrid working balance – with many people preferring the office to home. Our assessor, Jackie, said: "Congratulations to the team at Cambria for successfully being accredited with the 'We invest in people' standard, this was an extremely positive assessment, demonstrating it is a great place to work and with significant progress since your last assessment. It was a really positive experience being at Cambria, meeting your people and of course seeing your incredible facilities." We are incredibly proud of our team and what we have achieved so far, with much more good stuff to come. #InvestorsInPeople #WeInvestInPeople

It’s been a few days now and the Cambria team have now recovered from our epic canoeing adventure. We enjoyed a drizzly but fun-packed day out with WYE VALLEY CANOES LTD, paddling a total of 11.5 miles through the stunning countryside. We stopped en-route for a bite to eat at the Three Tuns, and finished off the day with a well-earned drink. Some got wetter than others – as along with the rain we had four capsized canoes! All in all it was a brilliant day for bonding and camaraderie, which nearly everyone attended – besides those ‘discerning’ few who preferred to bow out from a wet day on the Wye. https://lnkd.in/eYqz7jpe #teambuilding

Congratulations to our Noah Thompson (BEng) winning the first month of the fantasy football league, proudly showing off the trophy and his £20 winnings in this photo. It was really close between the top three. Trish Michael is not happy though, being top of the table the week before, she thought she had it in the bag. It is going to be an interesting season ⚽ ⚽

  • Great to see that work is accelerating well on-site at the Gorseinon Campus at Gower College Swansea this week. Demolition has commenced on the existing teaching block, with plans for the erection of new build teaching and social spaces as well as an access bridge from the southern entrance to the new extension. We’re looking forward to seeing the development progress alongside a fantastic team Kier Group, DB3 Group, McCann and Partners Ltd, Asbri Planning, Greenwood Projects, AtkinsRéalis. #GowerCollegeSwansea #StructuralEngineering #Construction James Spencer

  • We’ve just received some excellent feedback on the newly completed Iorwerth Jones development – which will see tenants moving in this week.   “It is outstanding… the contractors would often have people drive by and stop to ask if they could buy one of the homes.   The rain gardens are looking good. They need a bit of time to mature but you can tell that they are going to be a real feature. The shared surface also works well and uses the levels cleverly with the drainage.” – Joseph Thomas, Development Manager, Housing, Cardiff Council. Thank you and what a pleasure it was to work on this project. #IorwerthJones #CivilEngineering #Construction Ben Whyman Laura Mitchell

Site works are progressing nicely at #BIGSHED in Tonypandy, where it's brilliant to see that the crane has now been installed on-site!   A regeneration project for RHA Wales, the Big Shed commercial unit is creating mixed-use spaces to improve the local area and provide residents a vibrant town centre that they can be proud of.   The development will include a convenience store, bistro and office space, as well as residential apartments. The construction works are now in full swing on site, with groundworks underway and reinforcements being laid for the piled raft foundation, which you can see from these photos courtesy of C2 Groundworks Limited and lead contractor WILLIS CONSTRUCTION. 📸 We’re delighted to be a part of this project team alongside Willis, LeTrucco Design Ltd and RHA Wales, particularly now as Big Shed has just received its second 45/45 - Excellent Considerate Constructors Scheme review. 👏 Looking forward to seeing the project taking shape over the coming weeks!   #StructuralEngineering #Construction #Tonypandy #Regeneration #Engineering #ConstructionWales James Spencer

After a week of work experience, we said goodbye to Michael Smyth - who was an absolute pleasure to have with us. We're thrilled to hear he's planning on looking further into civil engineering. Maybe we will be welcoming him back in a few years' time? https://lnkd.in/g2q9kJve #CambriaConsulting #CivilEngineering #StructuralEngineering #WorkExperience

We recently completed a survey on the historic Brynglas House in Newport. The Grade-II listed property was built in 1834 by Edward and John Alfrey, who had established a brewery within Newport Castle in 1820.   Through the years, Brynglas House was used as a WW1 hospital, a school, a community centre and more recently an Adult training centre. The photos show the building as it was in 1900, and today. With our recommendations for remediation, repair, replacement now submitted, we are excited for the future of this historic landmark.
