Amid the budget announcements this week was a campaign win for us. Since 2022 we've been calling for a rise in Air Passenger Duty for private jets. While not the amount we called for, a 50% increase is a good start and sends the right message. Private jets are between five and 14 times more polluting than commercial flights and 50 times more polluting than trains. The UK is also responsible for almost a fifth (19 per cent) of Europe’s carbon emissions from private jets – more than any other European country! It's past time that these individuals paid for the damage they cause. We'd now like to see VAT applied each time a private jet lands or takes off, regardless of size or distance travelled, which would further raise between £79 million and £623 million. New blog! ✍️ For bus users, the Budget increased the cap on fares by 50 per cent. For rail passengers, it hiked the cost of railcards and increased rail fares above inflation. For drivers, it froze fuel duty for the 15th year running and kept the so-called temporary 5p cut. Read our full reaction to this week's budget: https://lnkd.in/exNaDSde

Here is an exciting job opportunity at the National Railway Museum. Spend six months cataloguing the Campaign for Better Transport Archive, which covers our 50-year history.
JOB ALERT! We have an exciting new opportunity at the National Railway Museum (NRM), for an Archive Cataloguer to unlock the Campaign for Better Transport Archive. You would be delving into the decades-long story of transport campaigning and uncovering bold, radical, relevant and inclusive stories for our audiences. This is a six month project which was made possible by a generous grant from the Foundation for Integrated Transport, in memory of Simon Norton. **Deadline Monday 11 Nov** https://lnkd.in/ezYf6ccK

Yesterday we held an event in the House of Commons, where we were delighted to welcome thought leaders, politicians and industry experts from across the sustainable transport sector. It was an opportunity to highlight the extraordinary potential of public and shared transport, walking, cycling and ride hailing, to change lives and reduce our impact on the environment. Warmest thanks to Olly Glover of the House of Commons Transport Committee for his welcome address, and to sponsors Uber and Padam Mobility for making the event such a success.

Interesting results from Uber's One Less Car Challenge. 20% of the 170 participants said they are likely to give up their personal car for good, showing that a multimodal transport system that includes ride hailing can effectively replace one household car! 👉https://lnkd.in/eEhX9y_n
Uber launched the One Less Car Challenge to find out what would happen if ordinary people of all ages gave up their personal car for a month. More than 170 volunteers later from 7 cities across North America and the results are in! https://lnkd.in/eEhX9y_n

📰Us in The Independent. “Taking the bus should never be a financial burden and while we welcome efforts to keep bus fares affordable, this is a significant increase that could be costly to many. The scheme’s success has proven that by making public transport more affordable, more people will use it and we strongly urge the Government to put a plan in place to keep fares low for years to come. It is vital that the Government now carries out a full review of what other discount fares could replace the cap in the long-term to avoid any further rises.” https://lnkd.in/eYVeVisH

🚅📮Mail belongs on rail 📮🚅 3,650 of you signed our postcard to Royal Mail urging it to keep mail on rail! On Friday we were at Royal Mail HQ making your voices heard. Facing a climate emergency we need more freight transported by rail, not less. A solution must be found to ensure that the 200 year history of mail rail continues. DB Cargo (UK) Limited

📻We were on Radio 4's Today discussing the future of the £2 bus fare cap. Taking the bus shouldn’t be a financial burden and scrapping the cap could leave passengers struggling to afford travel on lifeline services to access work, education and medical care. Ahead of Wednesday's budget, we're urging the Chancellor to extend the cap at least until it is decided what other discount fare scheme could replace it. Listen from 50.00: https://lnkd.in/e2w7xCVW
