My journey to CEO at Candid Studios hasn't been the most linear of paths... 🤭
I actually graduated from musical theatre college at 19 years old as a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed actress ready to take on the world 🚀 I sometimes question where I got the resilience and perseverance to become a founder of a start-up, and reader, ten years in the acting world will do it.
Weekly, sometimes daily rejections, rounds of auditions and no feedback, last-minute holiday cancellations, missing important events, wondering if I'll make rent on the equity minimum in theatre, the standard Christmas table conversations "What about Eastenders?" "Why don't you just show up at the film studios and ask for a role?"... the list could go on with how difficult it was to pursue the career I loved so much.
This is why, during those ten years I was passionate about building a multi-hyphen work life as a freelancer alongside auditioning and my acting gigs, so I could hone my skillset of community building, event hosting and marketing. I loved working for a plethora of incredible companies, running immersive activations with Smith & Sinclair (where I met the iconic Grace Bryan who's one of my favourite brains to watch at work!) and building London's Bumble Inc. with community IRL events such as singles supper clubs and insightful panel talks (where I met one of my most special mentors and friends Nicole Marguerite Gray - it feels like a different life!?)
So when the "lightbulb" moment for Candid came in October 2022, as an actress with no degree or business experience, I was so very grateful that I'd decided to build on my other skills too. Empowering people and their stories has always been my focus, through acting first, then events and marketing and now at Candid.
