Care England, the leading voice for adult social care providers in England, has expressed disappointment in the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) latest approach to restoring trust in its regulatory operations Prof Martin Green said: “The CQC needs to practice what they preach. To use their own words, care providers demand an effective, responsive, and well-led action-plan – yet find themselves to be failed once again, and paying for a service they are not receiving.” Click below to read the press release in full. https://lnkd.in/euzTrKCB

CQC Re-building a trusted approach to regulation! This one page tells us nothing about what they’re going to do and when they intend to deliver this change. There are no targets, no timelines, no budget, and this is what they consider to rebuild Trust This organisation has lost the trust of the public, the provider community, and to send this piece of nonsense out as their recovery plan is an absolute disgrace. How can the Board, DHSC and Ministers have allowed this ?

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman’s Annual Review of Adult Social Care Complaints for 2023-2024 sheds light on significant challenges faced by both care providers and local authorities across the country. Reflecting on the findings, Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England, said: "At Care England, we are committed to supporting our members in fostering person-led care and improving communication. However, sustained improvements will require more than isolated fixes. We need urgent, sustained reform and long-term funding from the government, as without this, both care providers and local authorities will continue to struggle in delivering the quality of care people deserve. The high uphold rate reflects the need for systemic changes to prevent these failures from reoccurring." Read the comment in full via the link below: https://lnkd.in/e2HPt6Pu

In Wes Streeting’s speech at the 2024 Labour Conference, he emphasised the need to address the social care crisis and highlighted the Fair Pay Agreement. In response, Prof Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England, says: It is encouraging to see the government recognise the urgent need to address the challenges in social care. However, it is crucial to understand that social care cannot merely be viewed as a mechanism for alleviating pressure on the NHS; it deserves dedicated attention and investment in its own right... To truly effect change, the Fair Pay Agreement must be accompanied by a detailed and realistic funding plan. Without it, there is a significant risk that our ambitions for fairer pay and better conditions could fall short, perpetuating the very issues we seek to resolve...."
