The Chemical Business Association's Generation STEAM is designed to highlight the diverse careers available in the chemical supply chain, from traditional roles to those less widely known. We provide people in our membership with the resources to partake in outreach across the UK, as part of a commitment to plugging the potential skills gap facing the chemical supply chain, and in our first year we have trained 50 #GenerationSTEAM ambassadors! Great post from Jakki Generation STEAM is about making STEM subjects more appealing. We challenges preconceptions that learning areas are separate, by transcending the current way of thinking and changing the way STEM is perceived. It is about being inclusive, making the industry more accessible, by attracting a wider talent pool. In 2023, we engaged with over 16,700 young people, showcasing the diverse career opportunities available to them in the chemical supply chain. Through 2024, our commitment remains equally strong, yet our focus extends beyond nurturing future generations alone as we fully recognise the immense value seasoned professionals bring. Our Chemical Business Association 5050Vision initiative celebrates this essential segment of the workforce, whose deep knowledge, expertise, and institutional insight drive innovation, enhance safety protocols, and mentor the next generation. Through their contributions, these people continue to shape and strengthen the industry, bridging past achievements with future potential. #5050Vision #people

A highlight of an exceptionally busy October was an invitation from CJ - who is a great friend and also a Fellow of the Society of Leadership Fellows - to join an Innovation Workshop, marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sea Heritage Foundation and the Merchant Navy Training Board. This agreement, formalised at London’s Victory Services Club, is aimed at sharing best practices in maritime education and apprenticeships, with the workshop centred on fostering innovation through collaboration. Given that over 80% of global trade moves by sea, its a critical link in the chemical supply chain, and the workshop provided an excellent forum to discuss our Chemical Business Association People & Skills Hub and to showcase key initiatives, including Generation STEAM, Generation Logistics, and our 5050Vision. #UK #Australia #collaboration #innovation #apprenticeships #5050Vision #GenerationLogistics #GenerationSTEAM

Thank you to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the Kingdom of Morocco for the opportunity to present on 'Information Technology and Operational Technology Security in the Chemical Industry'. In addition to emerging technology and AI key topics in the chemical supply chain, including physical factors such as drones and robotics, it was also a great forum to highlight our Chemical Business Association People & Skills Hub, and initiatives such as Generation STEAM - recognising that people (at least for now!) remain our greateat asset, and that AI will predominantly complement and supplement, rather than completely replace people. #EmergingTechnology #AI #drones #robotics #people #skills #Rabat #Morocco

Thanks for sharing these resources Stephen I'm proud to support Dyslexia in Engineering Day tomorrow, 10th October, which encourages conversations around dyslexia and neuroinclusion in engineering. This year’s theme, "What’s Your Story?", shows that every story is unique, with over 6.7 million people in the UK sharing their experiences and strengths as part of the dyslexic community.   At the Chemical Business Association, we're also hosting our Generation STEAM Ambassador Training tomorrow. Generation STEAM, led by the CBA, engages future talent to consider careers in the Chemical Supply Chain, promoting diversity and fostering a dynamic workforce. We believe that every career story matters and that embracing creativity alongside technical skills drives both personal growth and business growth.   Let’s inspire young people and those interested in developing their skills to explore the wide range of opportunities available in our sector. Thanks to Nordmann UK for the opportunity to meet last week along with their local MP Peter Lamb to discuss the critical importance of the chemical supply chain locally and to the wider UK society and economy - and while not always appreciated, its key role in creating and enabling a sustainable future. It allowed us to highlight some of the key issues and regulatory challenges the chemical supply chain faces such as UK REACH - which not only affects the chemical supply chain and the wider chemical sector, but downstream users who were previously not within the scope of the regulation. It was equally an opportunity to talk about the opportunities and factors that The Labour Party Industrial Strategy must grasp and take into account, as well as to highlight solutions and initiatives such as Responsible Care, also Generation STEAM and Generation Logistics which are led or partnered by the Chemical Business Association and are crucial for fostering sustainability, creativity and innovation. #crawley #economy #society #sustainability #ResponsibleCare #futuretalent #skills #voiceofthechemicalsupplychain

Our Generation STEAM initiative was launched to reflect the need for creativity and innovation within the chemical supply chain, and to give young people the opportunity to engage with the industry and learn about the diverse entryways and careers it offers. It also recognises that the chemical supply chain requires not just STEM skills, but also creativity, hence the inclusion of an ‘A’; for Arts, and also the value of Attributes such as Attitude, Ambition and Ability. Generation STEAM is also about making STEM subjects more Appealing. It is about being inclusive and creating more equity and diversity, making the industry more accessible, by attracting a wider talent pool.
