Learning independently is a pathway to becoming a high-level problem solver and informed decision maker - skills which will serve young people well when they enter the digital economy. It also enables them the freedom to learn computing in a context - empowering them to take action on the issues they care about most. Our courses are designed to help students become better independent learners. Our courses use industry approaches within the resources, and include plenty of opportunities for students to meet people in digital careers to get feedback on their app ideas. In our lastest Impact Report, we explore why it's important and how Industry Volunteers are making a big difference to young people participating in Apps for Good courses. 🌟 Empowering the Next Generation of Female Tech Innovators! 🌟 We were very excited to see that Apps for Good teacher Kamona Karim from Putteridge High School, has written a blog for TeachingTimes.com about how Apps for Good has broadened students' perspectives, and the encouraging increase they've seen in the number of girls choosing computing subjects. She discusses how our free computing courses are not just about app development, but about empowering young minds to create positive change through technology 💻 👉 Read the full blog post here: https://lnkd.in/eikXtB9i #GirlsInTech #EdTech #TechForGood #Innovation #YouthEmpowerment

We recently had the huge pleasure of taking a group of young people to Spotify to experience how podcasts are made. Working with experts in their fantastic London recording studios, students even got to make their own podcast to promote their app prototype created as part of an Apps for Good course. Spotify sponsored our 'Systems Thinkers' category in our 2024 Showcase, providing a panel of judges to listen to and feedback on student pitches - not to mention the many many reviews of student entries overall! We were thrilled when @James Ferguson invited the students to take part in an an experience they will never forget! Thanks so much everyone, this was a day filled with amazing, confident and creative students, brilliant teachers and parents and awesome industry volunteers from innovative partners organisations. We love this type of collaboration! #collaboration #partnership #edtech #computing

Last week we launched our Impact Report with an inspiring in-person event ✨ We were joined by educators, partners and Apps for Good advocates to celebrate our impact on young people over the last year. Our CEO, Natalie Moore, talked guests through our latest Impact Report, and encouraged attendees to keep spreading the word about our free courses. Next, we were lucky to hear from two brilliant students from Putteridge High School about their own app idea, EcoMingle, and we rounded off the evening with an insightful panel discussion from Leah Rowland, Fabiana Guglielmi, Kamona Karim and Sathish S. A special thank you also to our compere for the evening, Trustee (and former Apps for Good student) Mohima Ahmed. It was a wonderful evening, and we're so grateful to everyone who came along. We're looking forward to another exciting year ahead! Get in touch if you'd like to find out more about how you can help Apps for Good to give young people the skills they need to thrive. #ImpactReport #TechForGood #TechEducation #STEMEducation #DigitalSkills #EducationForAll

This #WorldMentalHealthDay we're shining a spotlight on our 2024 Showcase People's Choice Award winners, OutOfTheBlue from The Judd School. Their app was shortlisted in our Resilient Solutions category sponsored by BNY, and aims to reduce suicide rates in young adults. They were inspired to create their app after seeing many young people online talking about mental health issues, and they felt that there wasn't enough help available. They said, "It brings people out of the blue zone and offers different solutions and support with helplines, tips, tricks and medicine."
