How can companies effectively implement #circulareconomy principles in their operations? And how can such implementation result in value creation such as new products or service solutions? We're proud to announce that research funded by the Wales Innovation Network about a project we delivered last year has been published in the Journal of Production, Planning & Control. Well done Zheng Liu, Nick Clifton, Homeira Faqdani, Songdi Li and Dr Gary Walpole Seven case studies of manufacturing and service sector businesses in Wales which have effectively implemented circular economy principles were analysed for this research. Below is the list of the key dimensions of success required to implement circular economy principles: 1️⃣ Collaboration must come front and centre for organisations seeking the business advantages of a circular economy 2️⃣ Internal process – such as waste management, resource mapping and improved product development – is consistent with the efforts of most organisations exploring circular economy principles, but confining efforts to this stage significantly hampers opportunities for true circularity 3️⃣ External collaboration – engaging with supply chain partners and diverse stakeholders – is the critical next step in unlocking their achievements 4️⃣ Continued learning - while learning provides tangible skills and tools, the circular economy is regarded by the companies as a cultural and mindset change, requiring common understanding across the organisation, passion and teamwork 5️⃣ Government policy has a critical role to play in facilitating this collaboration, the case studies analysed for this research have benefited from Welsh Government’s transformative sustainability policy and circular economy ambition, but there is still limited practical guidance for specific industry sectors Read the complete journal article via the link below!
